We are a couple and stayed for 3 nights in this hotel (May 2022). For a 3-stars hotel, we do love their service during our trip in Funchal, Madeira. There are several restaurants nearby to have lunch and dinner. It is only 10 minutes of walking to the nearest beach. We rented a car for 1 day, and the rent car location was so close from the hotel (5 mins of walking).
If you are looking for a budget hotel with great service and good location, you may consider this hotel as an option. I recommend this hotel for you.
Pros: Location The location is quite good. From the airport, we took aero bus and paid €8 for a return ticket per person. The aero bus only accept payment in cash. The ride will take us around 30 minutes from the airport to the nearest stop (no.3 Mercado). Then, we walked to the hotel for 10 minutes. You just need to climb up the road after you are in 31 Janeiro street. To walk to the city center l, it will take you less than 10 mins too.
Check-in The check-in went smoothly and no problem. After we verified our identification card, the receptionist told us about the wifi, breakfast, and others things.
Price We made a reservation through OTA. It was good value of money to stay in this hotel. The breakfast already included in the price for 2 people.
Room The room is quite simple, clean, and not so big. We had twin beds with a city view (4th floor). There is a TV, chair, table, cupboard. The bed and pillow are comfortable for me. The bathroom is quite big and it is clean. The standard amenities like soap, shampoo are there. The towels are clean. The hot water and the ac worked perfectly.
Breakfast The breakfast is not bad, it exceed our expectations. They have fresh bacons and sausage everyday. The view from the breakfast area was so beautiful.
Wifi The wifi is easy to connect and the speed is good from our room.
Staff The staffs are quite nice and helpful. The man helped us to get to know a ticket available for Porto Santo. The woman helped us with useful information to take the aero bus to the airport. The staffs for breakfast were nice too.
Facilities The hotel has spa, restaurant, rooftop bars.
Cons: They should improve the fruits salad on the breakfast. The quality of the fruits...
Read moreIn general: Go here if you want to experience a night without sleep and be sweating all night or book this room for someone you really hate and want to punish them. I was in a room 304.
About midnight when I wanted to go to sleep, once I turned all the lights off I noticed this very loud sound as if some electric machine was behind the room. It was so loud I came down to reception to tell the receptionist. She asked what room am I and answered “Aha yes, we are full I can’t help you. I don’t know what it is, maybe the elevator.” To be honest they must 100% know about this because it’s beyond bearable. I am writing this at 4:30 am as I can’t sleep with earplugs in… (assuming all rooms facing that side have the same issue, so all 104, 204, 304…)
On top of this sound the room is extremely hot. You can use the 100 years old AC if you want to add more noise in the room. Once you open the window for some air you can hear the machine sound even better. Goodnight. Or should I say welcome to hell?
Extra story: When I was about to sleep I closed the door to the bathroom and apparently the cleaner or previous guest locked the doors from the inside. There is no way to open the door from the outside. I went to reception where this not friendly lady told me to open it with a paper clip which she provided. (Apparently common issue here as well.) I came back to the room and after several unsuccessful tries had to go back down to tell her I can’t open it. She shows me on another door and says go do it now yourself. I asked her if she can come with me and open the door for me, she refuses and to answer why she said: “I can’t I have to be bla bla reception.” Smelling like a cigarette tho. Thanks for nothing. Now at least I know how to open locked door with a paper clip. Great skill.
Overall I would do better to sleep in the street. Lost 100 eur per night. Please don’t go here…
As for breakfast that was fine, nothing crazy good,...
Read moreI stayed here during March a s a solo traveler.. There are so many things wrong with this place, from the management down. The desk staff apart from one person are unfriendly and nearly always give a negative response to all requests. The rooms are pathetically dark with 8 watt bedside lighting ! Amazing . Even a candle would throw out more light than these,The rooms are usually either have a stunning view of an opposite wall or lots of traffic noise,, The complete design of the hotel from the building up is a calamity in the making, In my room next door's toilet and bath was adjacent to my bed head wall, A master stroke of stupidity. At one point the young newly-married, Portugese couple slammed their room door over 40 times in two hours , being either visited by guests or themselves, When I complained at the desk the woman said they were just wed so never mind. Amazing The only light in this hole is the completely opposite dining area at breakfasts , where buffet was good, waiter service good also an d excellent background music, If you take the effort to visit Madeira you deserve better...
