The hostel is very clean and new. The rooms are large and beds comfortable. There is only two bathrooms. One for men and one for women. Thankfully it wasn't crowded when I was there but could be a problem when full. My major issue was safety. There are no locks on the bedroom doors. Traveling alone this made me very nervous and didn't feel safe. The reception leaves at 8pm and after that you are on your own. Yes th front door to th hostel locks, but that's it. If you stay in the front of the hostel which is right on the main road it is VERY loud and at night it sounds like cars are coming through your window. Also ther is onlt one small light in the room. Barely could see my bed at night and I was right next to the lamp. Other beds were dark and no lights on the beds either. The staff speaks minimal if any English which I think is an issue if you are running a hostel. The breakfast is not breakfast. You get 1 roll 1 croissant and instant coffee. No jam or coffee water or juice. I believe there was butter. I would not stay here again as I feel part of being at a hostel and traveling is being engaged with those that work there and the locals. This was not the case at all. It has much potential as the building is beautiful and clean and great bedrooms but that isn't enough for me to stay somewhere I don't feel...
Read moreWe thought this was a lovely place to stay and were glad we had chosen it. The location is good. It is on the edge of the small old town of Guimaraes, on a narrow, quiet street. It is 10 minutes walk to the train station and about 10 minutes in the opposite direction to the bus station. ||||Teresa was very pleasant. She knows some English, but was happy to let me practise the little bit of Portuguese I had learnt. She was helpful and efficient. |||| Our studio was at the back of the house, with a lovely ittle balcony overlooking the Penha mountain. It was very quiet. The studio was very clean, with a comfortable bed. There was plenty of space. There was a sofa, which might have been a sofabed, but we didn't try to pull it out. The bathroom was nice, with a good shower. We didn't use the kitchen to cook, but we had brought some cereal for breakfast, so used the dishes. The only thing we didn't particularly like was the high bar stools by the breakfast bar - but that's a personal thing. There was only one chair on the balcony, but we didn't bother to ask Teresa for another because we were only there for a short time, although we think we were the only guests at that time, so I'm sure she could have easily given us one.||||If we go back to Guimaraes, we would definitely stay there again. Well...
Read moreWe had a truly lovely stay. Teresa is a very sweet person and incredibly helpful. We communicated without speaking the same language, which was fun. The room is straight-forward beautiful, with a French balcony opening to a tiny street, which feels absolutely authentic. So when opening the window you see the house opposite very close, with beautiful roof and balcony. We absoluetly enjoyed our stay, the town is super cute.||Teresa helped me out totally when I lost my passport somewhere in the hotel, and made sure that I receive it via mail. A place to get...
