I can't speak highly enough of LR Guest House. My wife and I recently visited Lisbon for the first time and stayed here. This is easily one of the best experiences at an accommodation while on holiday.
To start things off the service is top notch. The owner and staff have extensive hospitality experience from some of the finest hotels and it shows. When we arrived to the guesthouse, we only had a card to pay the taxi. Instead of directing us to an ATM, then spotted us the cash and we were able to pay them back later. They are always prepared to get anything to improve your stay, like purchasing requested food items even. They are very knowledgeable of the area and have great suggestions for places to visit and eat. The kitchen has a large table that guests can sit together at and socialize. One morning, the staff was a little late getting breakfast ready and offered to refund us a whole nights stay as a result. Really above and beyond dedication to the quality of service they want you to expect from them.
I love to talk to people and had many great conversations with Antonio (owner) and Teresa about Lisbon, Portugal, hospitality, personal life, a little bit of everything and it really made me feel at home. They push the idea of making it feel like you are almost part of a family and I loved it.
The accommodation itself was an original building that survived the great earthquake that hit Lisbon. It has original features and was beautiful. It's located in the dead center of the nightlife area of Bairro Alto and has many amenities nearby. Because it is a protected building there is no planning allowed for a lift by the city, so it's only accessible by stairs. I wouldn't really describe Lisbon as wheelchair accessible anyway though, unless you consider careening down steep hills your jam. There is a wide spread of programming on the TV, and spacious bathrooms with great water pressure and temperature. They have a complimentary bar in a winter garden that is all access, help yourself, and complimentary drinks in the mini fridge in the room.
Do yourself a favour and stay here. You will love every moment of it. Say hi to Antonio and Teresa from Brandon while...
Read moreMe and my friend cannot speak high enough about this place. They really made our stay in Lisbon top notch! I liked Lisbon and all but I totally want to come back here just for this place. First of all the customer service is way above and beyond. I stay at a lot of Marriotts and Hyatts and this was by far way better! They make you feel like family here! I recently had a shoulder injury, and when I asked for ice in a Ziploc bag, they had no problem finding some for me and the next night they had one ready in the freezer! They really go above and beyond!
Also, another example is, I left my retainer and really nice retainer case there and when I emailed them about it, they said yes I had left it there and would I like them to mail it to me. I said yes, and they broke down the cost from post office and didn’t even charge me extra for the extra work. Just what it cost to mail it back to me. I really appreciated that as we all know retainers and cases do not come cheap.
The location is also a great area as well as you are in Bairro Alto area and close to the nightlife, bars, restaurants, and the seafront. Tourist spots are walkable.
The amount of space that you get in your room is crazy Amazing for a place in Europe! Water pressure and temperature is great. AC worked great! And they have an outdoor patio That’s really pretty to sit outside. they have a bar on the outside too that you could serve yourself and then just tip or reimburse later if you wanted to.
Breakfasts in the morning were amazing! They had an amazing spread out. Oh my God, I’m dreaming of the jam! Lots of bread, choices, and some of those pasteis plus they would make you anything you wanted. Eggs, bacon sausage French toast, waffles omelettes you name it they’ll make it fresh. So good!
They truly are amazing here. If you don’t stay here when in Lisbon what are you doing...
Read moreIf there were 10 stars we'd give them! Due to an overbooking from a previous accomodation we searchrd an alternative and ended up choosing to LR guest house. What a blessing! Antonio gave us a very warm & friendly welcome with a tour around the facilities. The guesthouse used to be hostel before and had been taken over and transformed into this lovely guest house. The breakfast room is the kitchen where in the mornings eggs, pancakes & veggies can be prepared for you fresh. A total home feeling. They offer a great complimentary snack and beverage which is so yummy, especially the banana bread made by Milena, one of the staff members. The rooms are spacious, nice hard-ish beds, shutters and the usual amenities (l'or coffee machine & kettle). We had a room with an external bathroom, it was just opposite our bedroom. They provided bathrobes, towels, individually packed pair of bath slippers and ear plugs. You may need to use the ear plugs depending on the street noise as there are a few bars down the street. Bathroom offered shower gel, shampoo , soap, lotion, hairdryer etc..it was very complete. I loved every single detail. Location wise excellent! You couldn't be more central in my opinion, the standard sightseeing spots are all in walking distance ranging from 7 min (shopping mall) - 20min (Praça do Comércio). The street they're in is car restricted, so the taxi will drop you off either at a main road like Rua da Misericórdia, from there it's a 2 min walk to the guest house. You can also come from the other side being Manteigaria Chiado in Rua do Loreto, but you walk uphill, 2 -3 min walk. LR guest house deserves every single tip you choose to give. Keep up the...
