Wonderful staff, interiors and location. Perfect for a romantic weekend. Situated in a quiet area just a 5 minute walk to the bohemian bars and cafes lining Rua de Santos O Velho (visiting these is a must, we recommend nearby Yallah and Bloom). Hotel interiors are gorgeous, exactly what we wanted in a former 17th century palacio; marble, masonry and tiles tastefully restored. Candles line the stairs at night. The weather wasn’t quite right to test the pool but its courtyard looked lush for a warm summer’s day. Our superior room was well sized and decorated, the bed was comfy though the bathroom was dated and the towels / dressing gowns were also tired which let the room down; given the overall experience is luxe, I’d have expected higher quality. There was just one mirror in the bathroom which made getting ready more difficult when there’s two of you. Would have been nice to have one near the vanity area. The service was impeccable; staff were polite, friendly and welcoming. You felt like a guest in a b&b which we preferred over staying in an anonymous hotel. Breakfast is served in a lovely room with a small but considered and balanced...
Read moreWell meaning staff but felt scripted particularly as English speaker. A nightmare for us checking after dark. Only a small brass sign behind bush, no busser hrelying on the evening staff, 1 person, seeing you in a monitor apparently. He didn't see us, we got in only after another guest arrived from dinner is how we got in. The hotel is by a set of steps which that evening had a homeless person going through a trash barrel next to the hotel door. Gorgeous work of the decorations, a series of connected structures with an exposed patio is lovely and rooms are nice comfortable and functional. Pillow were typical, soft HOWEVER There were 4 sets of stairs, 2 of which were very dark to get to our room. One was narrow with a 90degree turn and is not lit at the corner. You will be on stairs to get anywhere in this place.
The shower handle fell off when turning it on and likely still has my workaround fix.. That was all our first 40 minutes on property. Our room was never made up the next day. We had a nice patio and few, perfect for breakfast, but no room service available.
Best thing about the...
Read moreI would describe the Palacio Ramelhete as quiet understated luxury with an old-world feel. The historic hotel is located in an ideal location between Belem and the Lisbon waterfront with easy access to both by bus, tram or Uber. We walked around the local neighborhood near the museum and found several good restaurants. Our room was the Grand Ramelhete Suite which was large and luxurious. One of the best things about the hotel is the included full breakfast with several treats on the menu. ||We were met by the friendly professional staff at the door who took our bags and the hotel manager provided us with some refreshments and introduced us to the hotel, amenities, etc. We knew from that moment that we were in good hands from attentive staff committed to our comfort. Note: Other reviews mentioned the need to carry luggage up and down stairs. We did carry our bags down some stairs to the reception area for checkout and a staff member helped us carry them to the street. Given it’s a luxury hotel, they would have taken it from the...
