Pensão Central — Hotel in Matosinhos

Such a lovely, clean hotel. Family-run and so friendly - the cleaning staff are the happiest I've ever experienced in a hotel! The owner can't do enough for you and speaks so many different languages! Matosinhos is the perfect place to stay with its gorgeous beach and chilled out beach restaurants. The beach is a five minute walk from the hotel and the tram station is a two minute walk where you can get to Porto in about half an hour. (The tram system is very complicated though - I'd advise speaking to a human to buy your ticket!) The yellow tour bus stops at the promenade too and was a nice idea to see all the sights, although if you go on a Monday don't expect to be able to find the Port Wine cellar! The bus is not permitted to drive along the waterfront on a Monday so I'd advise getting off as soon as you cross the bridge, then walking along the waterfront to find the wine cellars! Brilliant family run hotel, lovely friendly staff, very clean, very inviting and comfortable. Rooms are smaller than chain hotels but creatively decorated with modern facilities. Matosinhos is a relatively run down industrial area but wonderfully friendly, has an excellent beach and a unique charm plus dozens of amazing fish restaurants all cooking fresh seafood on open grills along Rua Herios de Franca. 15 minutes by tram from the centre of Porto or 30 minutes on the 500 bus which must be one of the most scenic bus rides anywhere. As soon as i arrived they hustled me with 25 euro extra for a room with an extra bed that i dont need..or i have to wait 5 hours!, The sink is short and small in a way you can barely wash your hands, second day of the staying they stole from me! And i told the manager he called me a lair and denied it without even asking anyone who cleaned the room!! I had also another person with me to prove what i said but still called both of us lairs..!!the breakfast is literally nothing! Dry bread with 4 slices of cheese… need to be extra careful on...
