Booked this place on Booking.com for one night for 45 Euros. One of the amenities listed was that the room had air-conditioning. What a rude shock we received when, upon checking in at the reception located within the newly renovated hotel, we were then directed to an old building at the side and behind the new hotel! Dumbfounded, we found that we had been given a room on the first floor in this building! ||||Our room was shabby with outdated furniture and more importantly, had NO air-conditioning. We asked the manager/owner about the air-conditioning and he claimed that it was erroneous advertising on the part of Booking.com! As it was peak season, hotels in Fatima were fully booked so we couldn't even ask for a refund and check into another hotel. We asked for a fan and they were prompt to give us one - a dirty, dusty one! They couldn't even clean it before bringing it to us! We ended up cleaning it ourselves.||||The non-existent air-conditioning wasn't the only problem with the room. The wooden floor was worn out in places and was dirty under the beds. The blankets were dusty, causing me to sneeze when I pulled them aside. The bathroom was poorly lit as there was no overhead light bulb, only two light bulbs on either side of the sink mirror. One of the sink taps couldn't be shut properly so a trickle of water was constantly flowing out. The shower curtain barely covered the top of the bath tub. We had to shower carefully for fear of flooding the bathroom floor. Unfortunately for us, a sealed fixture between the sink taps had come loose, exposing the opening. This resulted in water from the sink flowing onto the bathroom floor. Had to leave the bath mat on the floor to soak up the water. The toilet bowl had an ill-fitting cover that couldn't stay lifted for even a second. The interior sound insulation of this building was bad. As the doors of the rooms were old, they were quite difficult to close so guests had to shut them forcefully. You can just imagine the amount of noise this generated. Very unpleasant. We could also hear very clearly people talking outside in the corridors as they used the stairs.||||Breakfast was a nightmare! It was chaotic with the staff being very disorganized. They kept flitting from table to table without first ensuring that they had adequately served the previous table. There were not enough coffee and milk flasks so even though we were still eating, they took away our flasks in order to serve another table. Needless to say, they didn't bring the flasks back to us. Another guest had to get his bread from the bread basket of a previous guest who had already left because no one had served him bread although he had been waiting for a while. The breakfast room wasn't even half full!! I can only imagine the situation if they had a full house!||||Having read the reviews here about this hotel, I can only surmise that some of the reviewers had rooms in the new hotel and others, unfortunately, had rooms like ours. I have looked through the photos of the hotel and there was no photo of the bathroom that came with our room. The bathrooms depicted in the photos were all new and modern. I feel that the management of this hotel hasn't been upfront in their advertising. They should be honest and inform potential guests that there is a possibility of being given old, shabby rooms. Shameful!||||Avoid this hotel. You have better hotels for less in Fatima. One other thing...they don't accept payment by ATM or credit cards here. Cash only. Please ask...
Read moreI highly recommend Hotel Santo António de Pádua in Fátima for those planning to visit that area of Portugal.||||During my two-night stay there in May 2018, the Hotel satisfied all of my needs for rest, food, safety, and comfort. It was clean and quiet and hospitable.||||At check-out, I told the desk clerk that I thought that I had not yet paid for my room, and then, of course, I paid for it. I had forgotten that I had at check-in paid in cash for the entire stay. (At time of check in, I was an exhausted foot pilgrim, and had promptly lost the check-in payment receipt that the Hotel had given me).||||Many months later, the lost first cash receipt emerged from my files and I realised my error.||||I presented my situation to the Hotel, together with signed traceable copies of the supporting evidence, and inquired if they would reimburse me the duplicate payment. After performing her due diligence, a very pleasant lady named Silvia agreed to the reimbursement and sent the money to my bank account here in Canada.||||Thank you, Silvia.
