I stayed at this scenic hotel during April 21-23 while on a guided hiking trip around Madeira. This hotel is undergoing some exterior renovations, which didn’t impact my room. I really enjoyed staying here! It is within walking distance of two supermarkets, several restaurants, and the rock pools. Liliana is the friendly and personable front desk staffer who is quick to help the guests, whether it is providing a fluffy towel to use after exiting the nearby rock pools or connecting an outdoor hose so I could rinse off the bottom of my hiking boots. Ask her how she got her first name!||My room was quiet (facing the interior parking lot), and it had a room thermostat I could adjust for my comfort, plentiful towels, a special little towel to be used on hiking boots, minifridge, and a room safe. The only thing I can quibble about is that the bed was hard. I had to fold a blanket lengthwise and put it under the bottom sheet to provide some cushioning. Liliana indicated that others have complained about the hard beds, and the hotel will be getting new beds that are even more firm. That is a shame. I would encourage management to purchase some pillow top mattress covers that could be used by some guests (such as those like me who have some arthritis in their hips).||This hotel offers a breakfast buffet with a wide range of hot and cold food items. Delicious! Everything was well organized, and the tables were promptly cleared of dirty dishes and cleaned. The staff working the breakfast buffet were helpful and friendly. ||I would stay here again, but I’d bring a slim Thermorest sleep mat to use for additional...
Read moreAlthough I find it on the pricier side for a night's stay (comparing price/quality to what I have paid in other establishments), considering we are in Porto Moniz, I think the price is justified. Porto Moniz, with its marina, stunning natural swimming pools and nearby islets at Praia da Ribeira da Janela, is very popular with visitors to Madeira, and all these attractions, along with the restaurants, are just a stone's throw from the hotel. So the location is top.
The reception deserves special mention - the room I was initially given faced the car park with minimal sea views (as I only paid for a side sea view). Having had a tough day, literally walking all day in the rain from Serrado, I asked if I could be moved to a higher floor or a room away from the car park so I could get a good night's sleep. The manager kindly gave me a (upgraded) room with direct sea views (also thanks to low season availability), for which I am very grateful. The quality is exactly what you get from the description and pictures at Booking. Loved the special touch the staff made with the extra toilet roll - first time I have seen it :)
Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice and the staff were really friendly...
Read moreWe stayed in this hotel as part of a tour group travelling around Madeira. Positives: the location is good near the outdoor swimming pools. Negatives: The room door handle was broken and there was no key card (we were given a key instead when the rest of our party had electronic key cards). There was no key for or instructions on how to use the safe and there was an insect detection kit inside the safe. One of the shutters outside the window was stuck in the closed position so we couldn't let more light into the room. The toilet stopped flushing on our last night (no water was getting into the cistern); they did a temporary fix on the toilet and said it would do us until we checked out in the morning (not great!). There are seats in the hallways where another noisy group were sitting and we could hear the laughter and chatter from our room which prevented us getting to sleep. We were not impressed with this hotel. If you are offered room 205, ask for...
