The Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools are one of Madeira’s most famous attractions, featuring volcanic rock pools filled with crystal-clear Atlantic water. These pools offer a unique swimming experience with ocean waves crashing into the lava formations while remaining protected in calm swimming areas.

How to Get There • Located in Porto Moniz, on Madeira’s northwestern coast. • About 1 hour 15 minutes from Funchal via VE4 and ER101. • Parking: Free street parking available nearby.

Two Pool Areas: Piscinas Naturais de Porto Moniz (Main Pools – Paid) • Entrance Fee: ~€3 per person. • Facilities: Showers, changing rooms, lifeguards, snack bar. • Best for: A more structured swimming area with easier access. Piscinas Naturais Velhas (Old Pools – Free) • More natural and rugged. • No facilities but great for a quick dip. • Located near the Fort of São João Baptista.

Best Time to Visit • Morning: Fewer crowds, calmer waters. • Summer (June–September): Warmer temperatures, but more visitors. • Winter (December–March): Can be rougher, but still open if conditions allow.

Nearby Attractions • Miradouro da Santa (Porto Moniz Viewpoint) – Overlooks the pools from above. • Levada da Ribeira da Janela (PR15) – A beautiful hike nearby. • Seixal Beach – One of Madeira’s few black sand beaches,...

The Porto Moniz natural swimming pools are an absolute gem on the island of Madeira! I had the most delightful experience exploring and swimming in these natural pools. The crystal-clear waters, surrounded by volcanic rocks and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, create a truly magical setting.

The natural pools at Porto Moniz offer a unique and refreshing swimming experience unlike any other. The cool, clear waters are perfect for a relaxing dip or a refreshing swim on a warm day. The natural beauty of the pools and the surrounding landscape make it a picture-perfect spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy.

I was mesmerized by the natural rock formations that create the pools and the way the waves crash against the rocks, creating a soothing sound that adds to the overall ambiance. The facilities at Porto Moniz are well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and welcoming, making my visit even more enjoyable.

If you're looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating experience surrounded by nature's beauty, I highly recommend visiting the Porto Moniz natural swimming pools. It's a hidden paradise that will leave you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and grateful for the wonders of the...

Relaxing place. Entrance was only 3 euro’s. Recommend to go on time to get a locker. Also bring a snorkel, plenty of fishes and a sea snail spotted.
