I don’t recommend the restaurant. Despite its cool location (but all restaurants here have a good one), the experience was totally a fail. Both the service and the food weren’t appropriate for the price and the stay. Starting with the food, we asked two grilled fishes, one of which (Sargo) was uneatable without salt nor flavour. This is not acceptable and this indicates the fish was either old or of bad quality. The Dorade tasted better for some reason. The service did not help either: it was fast to take note of the orders but it took more than 45 minutes for the food to come. The service did not inform in advance, did not come to the table and asked if we wanted cold starters or simply bread, nothing, just brought the drinks. When asked about the food and the timing, the answer was that it was a big fish and therefore takes time. This is not a reason for taking 45 min. The restaurant had a birthday going on and two more tables of 4 people, but still more than 50% was empty (this was in low season). Whatever the reason was, I think we would just need a word of sincerity on the reason for the delay or informing in advance and that was fine. This is staff that has not much clue about the job, just takes note of requests, brings stuff to table and that’s it. This is not the usual in the Island but that was the case there. All in all, I don’t recommend and even with a lazy service the most important is always the food and that was very disappointing for a restaurant called “Dom Peixe” or Mr Fish if you like. And believe me, I know what’s a good fish or not, and how a Sargo and a...
Read moreThere aren’t many restaurants in Port Moniz and you’re likely going to only spend a short time there so you need to make sure you choose the right restaurant.
Whilst on the coast, I’m sure you’ll want some good seafood and after swimming in the volcanic pools, you’ll probably want something to warm you up. To that extent, I’d highly recommend Dom Peixe, particularly their mixed seafood spaghetti, which is for at least 2 people, but can easily feed 3 or even 4. It is 37.50 euros but, as you will be able to tell from my picture attached, contains an extremely generous amount of seafood (including crabs, mussells, limpets and prawns) that more than justifies the price. The dish is extremely well done and comes in a cast iron pot so it retains its heat for when you inevitably go back for a second or third helping. The sauce is delicious and the tomatoes used are clearly fresh.
To top it all off, the staff were very friendly and made sure we enjoyed our time there. Our only regret was that we weren’t able to finish all of our food despite us desperately wanting to do so. Probably one of my favourite meals of the...
Read moreWe ordered fresh fish from grill with french fries and salad. There was supposed to be 3 portions of fried and salad and 2 mid sized fish for three people. The fish was served before we received plates on which we were supposed to eat the fish. Then it turned out that the fish was not cooked enough and we needed to ask to put it back on tge grill. It took us 2 approaches to get it done as the weitress completely didn't u derstand what we asked for. Finally we received the bill for 106 euros for two fish and 3 beers . Apparently the waitress said that the weight of the fish was 3kg and the price was 30per kg, after argue that the fish wasn't the weight that they said the manager said that they 1kg each and the price was 45 euro per kg what was insane. As the fish wasn't that big as they said. When we asked to show us the price for the specific fish she said that the local fish and rgat tge cost but she couldnt show us tge proof of tge price that she said. So better be careful. There are better places with better prices. Truly...
