We came here because the 4 something star over all review. The Menu was ok if u like Meat/Fish but no for vegetarians (until now not too many veggie places… so Ok) but when u want to order the staff speak no english, which is ok but unexpected in a hotel especially at such a touristy place. When it was time to order after ca. 25min waiting the staff was utterly confused when i said no Salmon in my salad/ Mozzarella, tomato, salad with fig puree. What i got was only mozzarella. Who in their right mind orders only mozzarella… if you work in a restaurant u should at least ask to clarify what the guest wants, not give up mid ordering and just bring blithering mozz. Ffs my friend ordered the burger, with a side of veggies and normal fries. What he got were sloppy fries and just the patty. (Sometimes in rest it just be like that, that they only give the patty)(this has to be written on the menu or told by the staff that its only the patty) my friend got NO veggies.
The service was over all slow, half the kitchen is outside in the dining area, which destroys the mood of having ur dining and kitchen area… the mood was off. Seemed like the other guests were also regretting to have went there for supper.
Theres only a small balcony for sitting outside, probably always full. So dont expect to get a nice breeze or fresh air while dining there.
Anyway when ordering i said that the salad was my main course… it was brought 15min+ before my friends got their food.
After just a terrible experience from walking in and sitting down to ordering and them receiving the food/mozz i was so annoyed that i had to take a breather outside to calm down. (I now understand how people can get so very annoyed in restaurants and just freak out)
Anyway once i got my mozz, i asked for the salad the staff “forgot” to bring. When we paid i had to pay the full price of the Mozz “Salad” and the “extra” salad i ordered to actually in the end have something in my stomach.
Anyway go there and experience it yourself. Im sure they were somehow stressed or something. Hope that they just didn’t care. Which would be worse. If i could i would take at least 2 stars off the 4 stars the restaurant/hotel.
Go there and make up ur own opinion just keep in mind that there could be...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Sea View Restaurant in Porto Moniz, Madeira, and while the stunning ocean view and ambiance left me mesmerized, I must address the staff's attentiveness and pace of service, which fell short of expectations. However, despite this drawback, the overall experience and the exceptional quality of the food warrant a visit to this serene oceanfront haven.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately captivated by the tranquil atmosphere and the breathtaking panoramic view of the sea. The soothing sound of crashing waves and the refreshing ocean breeze set the stage for a memorable dining experience.
Now, let's delve into the heart of the matter—the food. Sea View Restaurant delivers on taste, showcasing a hamburger that is undoubtedly one of the best in Madeira. The presentation was appealing, with a perfectly grilled patty nestled between a fresh, soft bun. Each bite offered a burst of flavors, as the juicy patty, expertly seasoned and cooked to perfection, danced on the palate. The toppings, such as the crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and tangy pickles, added a refreshing crunch to the ensemble.
The attention to detail and the thoughtful combination of flavors in the burger were truly commendable. The secret house-made sauce provided a tangy and slightly sweet element that complemented the meat splendidly. The overall culinary experience was undoubtedly a highlight, demonstrating that Sea View Restaurant takes pride in using high-quality ingredients and crafting memorable dishes.
However, I must address the service aspect, which left room for improvement. The staff, unfortunately, seemed inattentive.
Despite the service shortcomings, the serene atmosphere, the picturesque sea view, and the exceptional quality of the food at Sea View Restaurant make it a worthwhile dining destination. It is my hope that the management takes note of the service concerns and addresses them, as it has the potential to elevate the overall dining experience to...
Read moreI can honestly say this was one of the worst meals we have ever been served. Arrived at 7.40pm for our 8pm reservation hoping to have a pre dinner drink. Nope. Taken to our table and left there without drinks until 8pm. Every course we had was awful!! Starters of veal tartare and foie gras - tartare was ok but served with an excess of salad. Foie gras again served with an excess of salad, apple and pear!! Main of scabbard just awful, duck was raw not rare, fat not rendered and meat not rested. Served with 10 vegetables(and fruit)! Yes 10!! Asparagus, broccoli, mushroom, tomato, courgette, beetroot, carrot, sweet potato, apple, and ? with madeira sauce, fruit compote and Marie rose dressing!! Considered leaving half way through mains. Dessert did not get any better with creme brulee that was not burnt and sugar not bruléed!! With all sorts of different fruits and a green mint cream/ganache!! Had to ask for more drinks. Service was functional but this seems to be quite typical for hospitality staff on Madeira - no conversation and the customer is an inconvenience!! Complimemtary cherry liqueur after dinner was a nice touch. Paid the bill and left - all within an hour!! Disappointing anniversary...
