When in Porta Moniz, we were looking for somewhere for lunch but most places have woeful reviews. We settled on this place and was lucky to get one last table outside.

It was a bit of a squeeze as the tables are on a very narrow sidewalk and up against car parking, but we made 4 chairs work.

We chose the chicken especial balo do caco and the steak especial balo do caco. Both were delcious. The kids had chicken nuggets and chips were apparently delicious. Drink wise, I chose the homemade lemonade and it was divine! Lots of lemony bits in which I love. I even bought a second to take away with me!

It gets very busy and there was often a few people waiting for tables while we were eating which speaks volumes.

Atmosphere wise, its as atmospheric as it can be when you're sat between a wall and cars. It has a buzz though and for me, it was about the food.

I would recommend this place and will go back if we ever revisit...

If you stick to the basics—like the bolo da coco—it’s a fine spot, no frills, but also no view. It’s the opposite side of the street from the restaurants with views of the ocean. You definitely don’t choose this spot for the ambience and don’t go if you have any dietary restrictions. My husband ordered grilled fish and it came fried, which he couldn’t eat due to the gluten. They made a new plate but this time covered the fish in onion and garlic after we’d told them he can’t eat those things. So we just left and he ate somewhere else. Not ideal. And the whole town of Porto Monzo is not that charming, overrun with cars and people, so I’d say go for a dip and bite in...

Good was delicious, huge portion, I ordered the steak bits with French fries, medium size, i barely finished it, small would have been fine, and I'm a man and i like eating, but the medium size was just so huge, it tasted great, there's this sauce under the fries that's tasty, not spicy per say, I didn't feel the heat but my nose was running at the end, but still, tasted great and the waitresses were nice, surprisingly spacious, even though outside I thought there wouldn't be much spaces but there's easily 30...

Maybe my bad choice of food (picado with chicken meat) but my food was not good and chicken was almost rare with a huge porcion of fries. Madeiras bread was good and also orange poncha. Service was a little bit rude and they not speaking english good. Sitting outside is not very nice but it is an authentical restaurante with this vibe. You can pay with card. THE KITCHEN CLOSE AT 6pm than you can order only salad or sandwich.
