Hotel Salgueiro — Hotel in Porto Moniz

Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was a deeply disappointing experience.

We discovered bed bugs in our room and woke up covered in bites, which was both alarming and extremely uncomfortable. While the hotel did move us to a higher-category room as soon as we reported the issue, the overall handling of the situation was far from professional.

The offer to launder our clothes — a necessary step in such a case — was not made proactively. We had to specifically ask for it ourselves, which added to the feeling that the staff lacked proper training in dealing with this kind of serious issue.

To make matters worse, when we informed reception about the bed bugs, two staff members began arguing about the situation right in front of us. This only further emphasized the lack of organization and professionalism. An apology was only offered later, when our clothes were returned to us.

We understand that this is a three-star hotel, and we adjusted our expectations accordingly. However, the presence of bed bugs is absolutely unacceptable, regardless of the hotel’s rating. Even more concerning is the fact that the hotel appeared to continue operating as usual the following day, with no visible sign of pest control or any communication to guests about how the issue was being addressed.

Upon arrival, the check-in process was uncomplicated, and we could promptly go to our room. From the moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the spaciousness and comfort it offered. The room boasted a plethora of amenities, including a writing desk, TV, wardrobe, safe, and a thoughtfully stocked mini-fridge. However, the true highlight was the expansive balcony, which provided us with a breathtaking view and two sunbeds. This allowed us to soak up the stunning scenery in ultimate comfort, making it the perfect spot for relaxation. There was one aspect that fell short of expectations: the breakfast. I have never seen such rudeness and misconduct in one place. We were waiting for over an hour without any explanation even when asking, the waitresses were so rude and mean to me and my friends and the worst part was they were really disrespectful and arrogant to my parents which is unacceptable! My partner’s food was cold, nobody asked us what we wanted as sides literally shoved chips in our plates and that was it! Chips and “chicharros” were extremely oily and tuna steak was dry as well as the chicken. After Covid, staff should be even nicer to keep clients coming not the opposite as I and the rest of my guests will not be coming there...
