Low quality, high prices, waitresses are unresponsive, treat customers poorly, and are not enthusiastic...very bad.

My friend who had the hamburger was satisfied, but for us, a group of Japanese and experienced Asian travelers, the sushi is far from authentic and seems to be made by unqualified/unaware of Japanese food.

We ordered the Nigiri combo which cost about 40 euros, but the contents were not what we expected. There was no sashimi, but deep-fried gyoza, which is rare in Japan. (Baked gyoza is the mainstream). We were surprised at the number of deep-fried frozen spring rolls (with almost no filling), but in the end it turned out to be an additional order due to the waiter's mishearing.

We were surprised to be presented with the bill.

We asked her why, but she replied, "You ate it, so you should pay for it. Or what? You want me to pay for it with my own money?

It took some back and forth to quiet her down, but since we had not ordered them, we were not about to give up on our request.

There were two pairs of customers who got tired of...

This is difficult to review because there were many things in different qualities. The prices are very high compared to basically everything else we experienced in 10 days of Madeira.

Pros: the scabbard fish sticks (house made) were delicious and well made the gyozas were very nice and so was the accompanying sauce. These are often average at best the location is quite nice, especially during the day

Average: service was not super attentive or super friendly, but also not the opposite

Cons: the rice in the sushi was not properly made sushi rice. The consistency and moisture were off not only were the dishes very expensive but also small. Luckily we were not super hungry. But we got one meal extra (because of the order mishap) and still it wasn’t much.

All in all, it might be a better idea to go to a different place. There are many nice and cute restaurant nearby with a good view and better food that are...

We had an horrifying experience at this restaurant. We ordered a €40 sushi platter for two, and it was a disaster. The rice was undercooked and extremely hard, making it nearly inedible. The fruits on the platter were visibly old and had brown spots, clearly not fresh at all. When we complained to the waiter, we received nothing more than a nod—no apology, no attempt to make things right.

It wasn’t just us; the table next to us experienced the same issues. The two other guests at that table left their food and drinks barely untouched, paid, and walked out in frustration.

This restaurant is not recommended. It has been a very long time since I have had such awful food. Avoid at all costs. Awful food for big prices.

Only the atmosphere was pleasant, mainly because of the ocean right next to the restaurant.

Update: The Hotel/Restaurant has subsequently...

There are many nice and cute restaurant nearby with a good view and better food that are significantly cheaper.

After spending a week in Porto Moniz, I can confidently say that the Oceana Seaview Rooftop Restaurant is the best place to dine in the area. The food is simply amazing, and the presentation is as delightful as the taste itself. The dishes are thoughtfully prepared, highlighting fresh ingredients and local flavors, making each bite a memorable experience. During our stay, we visited the restaurant twice. On our second visit, there was a mix-up, and we ended up waiting over an hour for our food. However, even with this delay, the quality of the dishes made up for it entirely. The flavors, the atmosphere, and the stunning views from the rooftop create a dining experience that is hard to beat. If you're in Porto Moniz, this restaurant is a must-visit. The exceptional food and beautiful setting make it worth the visit, despite the occasional service hiccup.
