Golden Tulip Hotel Doha - A Disappointing '5-Star' Experience TLDR: Despite a seemingly lavish exterior, the Golden Tulip Doha falls far short of 5-star expectations, primarily due to consistently poor, unenthusiastic service, dated rooms, and a lack of attention to guest comfort. Not recommended for those expecting genuine luxury service. My recent trip to Qatar included two separate stays at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Doha, totaling three nights, as part of a five-day itinerary that also featured a two-night stay at the Grand Cosmopolitan Hotel in Dubai – an equally priced 5-star establishment. This comparison unfortunately highlighted the significant shortcomings of the Golden Tulip. Upon first glance, the hotel's lobby appears quite lavish, though the attached, visibly dated 1980s-style men's hairdressing shop near reception immediately detracts from the overall aesthetic. However, the real issues began at check-in. On both occasions, the process was remarkably slow and sluggish, devoid of any warm welcome, greetings, or smiles from the staff. It felt impersonal and inefficient, taking over 10 minutes just to receive keycards during our first arrival. The rooms, while spacious, felt dated. Breakfast was adequate but unremarkable – certainly not the standard one would expect from a 5-star hotel. At this point, the hotel felt more like a 4-star at best, primarily due to the pervasive lack of personality and charisma from the staff across all interactions. Our subsequent stay at the Grand Cosmopolitan in Dubai served as a stark contrast and truly illuminated the Golden Tulip's deficiencies. At the Grand Cosmopolitan, our bags were promptly handled from the taxi, doors were opened, check-in was seamless, and staff personally escorted us to our rooms. Furthermore, my colleague's birthday, which had been communicated to both hotels, was completely overlooked by the Golden Tulip, while the Grand Cosmopolitan thoughtfully provided balloons and cake in his room. Returning to the Golden Tulip for our second stay, we hoped our initial experience was an anomaly. Sadly, it was not. Upon arrival, no one assisted with our bags or opened the taxi door. The security guard at the entrance also failed to open the main hotel doors, requiring us to do so ourselves. The check-in experience was once again slow and handled by a visibly miserable hotel clerk. We even overheard another guest expressing frustration about his family being placed in a smoking room despite having young children, an issue that remained unresolved even hours after being told to return. Once in our room, the issues continued. The kettle was faulty, and upon closer inspection, I discovered loose fittings and unsafe, faulty electrical sockets. To add to the discomfort, the television was also non-functional, preventing any opportunity to unwind. At checkout, I brought these concerns to the attention of a female clerk. While she suggested I should have requested a room change, I explained that at that late hour, moving everything again was not a viable option. To her credit, she did offer complimentary coffees and arranged a complimentary taxi to the airport, which was a welcome gesture. However, these small efforts could not redeem the overall experience. Having stayed in numerous hotels globally, my expectation for a 5-star establishment hinges not just on amenities or aesthetics, but fundamentally on exceptional service. The Golden Tulip Doha consistently missed this crucial mark. I cannot recommend this hotel as a true 5-star experience.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is well situated in Al corniche and within 15 minutes walk to Souq Waqif. The building itself and the room, including the breakfast room are super clean and furnished to a high standard. Positives: The family room was spacious, it came with two double comfortable beds, sofa bed, TV, executive desk, ample wardrobe space and a safe to keep personal belongings. Minibar with fridge: coffee, tea bags, milk and water. The bathroom was clean with bath and hands towels and complimentary soaps & shampoo. The shower had good pressure. Good room service: the room is cleaned, bed sheets and towels are replaced daily. The cleaning staff are friendly. Good breakfast: Fresh omelette cooked by the chef and has a large variety of meats, cereals, pastries, breads, juices, yoghurts and fruits. Mohammed Rashid Al Aseri Mosque is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The highlight for me was the free gym which came with lots of free weight; dumbbells, barbells, cable stack, smith machine, lat pulldown, leg and shoulder machines. It also has cardio equipment, treadmill, epileptic trainer and training mats. I had a few good gym sessions during my stay. Spa was also available. The iron & ironing board was available on request. Negatives: The check-in time was 2PM and I had to wait over an hour for the room to be ready. The laundry bags came with the room but the service is not included which was disappointing for a 5 star hotel. Dry cleaning service is available per garment and prices range from 8-48QAR. The pool was unavailable during my stay for maintenance. The daytime receptionist staff should be more friendly and welcoming to guests. Overall I would recommend staying at this hotel.

I’ve stayed in this hotel for 3 weeks for working reasons including the 2 days of mandatory quarantine. I can say that personnel, gym and pool are the best of the hotel. This is the only reason why I put 2 stars. Quarantine: Worst service ever. The food was….bad. Except for the lunch that wasn’t that bad, the breakfasts were poor, toasts were cold and in general, disaster. On the 2nd day they didn’t bring any water!! I had to call 2 times. No one came so I had to wait until the next day. For the dinner the first day I had to call reception as no one contacted me. The breakfast on the second day no one brought it so I had to call at 8.30am and they said “still preparing”, 4 min later they brought it. They came to do the test, no previous notice, just opened the door the lady did it and not even “thank you” just nothing. Stay: + Always the same breakfast buffet. + They forgot to do my room cleaning one day. I called housekeeping and reception and nothing. I had to go to the reception to complain. + on day 3, They took the bath robe to clean it and never put another one in the room. + I had to call two different days because they took all towels to clean…..and didn’t replace them! Who does that? And when I called they said “we are cleaning them”. Don’t you have more?? + Gym very well equipped and cleaned. They apologized for the problems when I complained but never offered anything on return.

Golden Tulip Hotel Doha - A Disappointing '5-Star' Experience

TLDR: Despite a seemingly lavish exterior, the Golden Tulip Doha falls far short of 5-star expectations, primarily due to consistently poor, unenthusiastic service, dated rooms, and a lack of attention to guest comfort. Not recommended for those expecting genuine luxury service.

From the moment I arrived at the Golden Tulip Hotel, I knew I was in for a treat. The warm welcome from the staff made my check-in process seamless, and their hospitality set the tone for my entire stay. My room was nothing short of spectacular! It was spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully decorated with modern furnishings. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring that I had restful nights after long days of exploring. The view from my room was breathtaking, providing a picturesque backdrop each morning. The hotel's amenities truly elevated my experience. The swimming pool was refreshing and well-kept, perfect for lounging after a long day. The fitness center was equipped with state-of-the-art machines, allowing me to keep up with my workout routine. I also indulged in the spa services, which were absolutely divine and a must-try for anyone looking to unwind. Dining at the hotel was a highlight! The on-site restaurant offered an extensive menu featuring both local and international cuisine. Each meal I enjoyed was a culinary delight, with fresh ingredients and beautiful presentation. The breakfast buffet was particularly impressive, offering a wide variety of delicious options to kickstart my day. The location of the Golden Tulip Hotel couldn't be better! It's conveniently situated near popular attractions, making it easy to explore the area. Whether I wanted to shop, dine, or learn about local history, everything was just a short distance away. What truly made my stay exceptional was the staff, speacially hamza he were friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure I had everything I needed. Their recommendations for local attractions and dining spots enriched my experience immensely. Overall, my experience at the Golden Tulip Hotel was nothing short of fantastic. This was the worst hotel experience we have ever had worldwide!!! My wife has worked as a Guest relations manager at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain for 8 yrs and she was appalled by the service. Especially as they call themselves 5 star.

The day we arrived there was just one pair of slippers even though room booked for two. The sink & bath tub was not draining so we asked it to be checked. A maintenance man came with a plunger, plastic bag and bath towels. He plunged both and removed so much gunk & dirt from both which made the washroom stink. We were horrified with the smell. He then put in the plastic bag and wiped with the bath towels.

I called reception to request house keeping. They sent another man up with a pink spray bottle who just sprayed it over the floor bathroom & sink then left saying it will go after sometime but it was just there and slippery. So, I called again for a change of room & they said none available but they will send someone again. Third man came saying only one house keeping staff available, saw the slippery floor & told to put bath towels on the floor while walking. How can they clean drainage dirt and ask guests to use them on the slippery dirty floor when the same bath towels you provide for guests to use on for bathing. Have you'll not heard of a mop, scrubbers or rugs? How can five star have one staff for housekeeping at night?

The next day we realised the fridge we put the water bottles in was not cooling. I called maintenance again and he said he was not sure maybe I switched of the fridge when leaving to go out. A fridge should be on none the less whether in the property or not at least from check in to check out. I also asked why they replenished the water but left the empty welcome snacks plate from check-in & thrash still in the room & he replied maybe they thought I will still use it.

Our close friend working for QFA recommended the hotel but we informed her about our horrible stay & she will stop recommending...
