Gasthof Clara — Hotel in Sibiu

Stayed at Gasthof Clara with my three kids (aged 10, 14, and 16) for four nights during a short summer trip to Sibiu. I found the hotel via the airline company which offered a discount for this place which was already at an affordable place. Also, it suited our needs (breakfast, WiFi, four person room) and was placed close to the historic center of Sibiu.||The room exceeded our expectation! It was a very large room with a queen size bed and a large bathroom with a really big and nice shower. Also, there was a small loft with a queen size bed. The room was equipped with an LCD TV, fridge, WiFi, shampoo, and shower soap. Unfortunately, the WiFi was not very stable nor fast. With teenagers and a pre-teen that caused some frustrations ;-) The room was clean and seemed newly renovated. The guesthouse as such seemed clean and well kept.||The breakfast was a small but sufficient buffet style breakfast with toast, bread, jam, honey, cake, vegetables, sliced ham and salami, cheeses, yoghurt, müsli, juice, coffee, and tea. And probably a couple of other things :-) The hosts made sure that everything was available.||The location of the guesthouse is excellent. Right on the west side of the Cibin river right by the bridge leading to the lower old city of Sibiu. Just across the bridge the town market was placed with fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, and cheese. Walking to the center of the historic town took about 10 min.||The service of the staff was excellent. They were helpful and friendly and made sure we did not miss anything. The level of English varied from staff member to staff member but it was not a problem communicating with them.||Four well-deserved stars for a combination...

NO air conditioning in the room very thin walls (one could hear the neighbors sneeze) not possible to get any fresh air in the room because there's always someone smoking on the small terrace/balconies I am not sure what other people usually eat, but the breakfast buffet is just a small display of average produce from the grocery store. There's just nothing fancy about cheap, presliced salami, plastic cheese and diluted cheap coffee, and the list can continue... not all power outlets are secured in the wall, in some cases the wires are sticking out from the holes left uncoverd. This is very dangerous, but no one seems to spill a word about it (I can't be the only one that noticed them, but most importantly, how come the owners didn't do anything about it? The issues were certainly not from the day before, because there was a thick layer of moist dust covering the poorly insulated wires, which can only collect over time) rusty hooks and hangers in the bathrooms and moldy shower corners leaky shower cabin and partially clogged drain (with hair from previous guests) the pillow cases from the small pillows were not changed after the previous guests (they were not dirty-dirty, but clearly not ironed and some perfume notes were still present) no parking, except some spots (if lucky) on the greenery by the river bank. Neither car, nor nature friendly all in all, a bit too expensive given the low maintenance and poor quality of the room...

Absolutely Perfect Stay!

To begin with, the owner is incredibly warm, welcoming, and caring person. It was such a pleasure to meet him and stay at his wonderful property, he made us feel at home!

The rooms were spacious and immaculately clean, not a trace of dust or stains anywhere, even if you go looking. The photos really don’t capture how beautiful and tastefully decorated the place is in real life.

Noise isolation was excellent, the beds were very comfortable, and the air conditioning made the room feel cool and pleasant. The amenities were all provided: from an amazing-smelling shampoo and a hairdryer to a fridge and other essentials. Breakfast was delicious and offered plenty of choices for the whole family.

And last but not least, the location! Just 5 minutes from the city center, yet with the convenience of on-site parking. It couldn’t have been more ideal.
