Hostel Kavala — Hotel in City of Belgrade

It was more like a mini adventure rather than a common check-in. We arrived at hostel Kavala during the day but nobody was there. The place seemed abandoned. We tried the front door and it was open but there was nobody to meet us. We wanted to spend only a few days in Belgrade so we didn't set up all the details like having a different mobile network provider so we couldn't phone anybody. We also like to forget about our phones when we spend so little time in a foreign country. Taking all these into consideration, we found ourselves in the middle of the street having no one to talk to. At first we got very annoyed and tried to find another hotel but they had only one room available. We tried to ask a neighbor if they know something about the owner of the place. We eventually found an old lady willing to help us but she didn't speak English so we tried to understand each other using a primitive sign language. She called the owner of the hostel and when we finally met he explained us that in Serbia they usually leave the rooms unlocked for us to check in by ourselves. At least in small, inexpensive places like this one. We had a great time there. We could store our food in a fridge at the reception and we found out that that we could have asked for rooms with toilets and showers to avoid the one on the hallway. I highly recommend this place for young people who travel in large groups or old people who want to find a very cheap place to stay.
