Taking up a recommendation from a local we met this morning, we hit Reka. A live music restaurant, we were prepared for noise. But we weren't quite prepared for the waitress's ignorance.
Mummy was having difficulty seeing the wording on the menu in the dim lighting and loud environment. So she was looking at it through her phone screen to brighten it up, and had removed her glasses as she is near-sighted. When the waitress arrived mommy put her glasses back on to look at her and lost the page. Looking for it again and having further difficulty with the energy of impatience, the waitress was calling out "Mamma Mia". Mummy said she was disabled. The waitress said you didn't look so. Trying to look at what Mummy was ordering, the waitress took the candle in the glass to brighten the view of the menu herself. The act at which she had been impatient with Mummy about! Mummy reasoned that she had just done what she was having a go at her for doing and that she is a customer.
Her attitude changed to one of friendly touchy-feely. An attempt to make amends perhaps. I'm not going to mark the restaurant down on a ignorant by friendly waiter
So perhaps having no concept of personal space is a typically Serbian trait. Standing away from their table where almost standing on Mummy!
Still, the food was good, the music and atmosphere, fun, even if we weren't keen on the female singer, who made my cloth ears vibrate and not...
Read moreWe had our little wedding party at this restaurant 2 weeks ago, and we could not be happier with everything, they had to offer!! Everything was top-notch - the food, the drinks, the service, the help and advice from the owners before and after the wedding party! They were easy to work with, and they understand that newlyweds are very tired and exhausted people, so they gave us all the time and space we need, a very human approach! The food is on another level - everything that was served was fresh and hot, and the taste was AMAZING - we cannot emphasize enough, how good the food actually was, you simply have to go and see for yourself! The service was excellent - when your glass is never empty, and you never actually have to ask for a refill, you know that you are in great hands!!
And last but not least - the atmosphere that Reka is known for, and the quality of the music and the band, was really terrific as well, so, people, there is no question about this place - just go over there and enjoy!!!
Thank you for making our wedding a day to remember, much love from Ivana...
Read moreWe came to have a dinner, saw that the place was full, got in and then sat at the tables outside. My friend, who doesn't speak Serbian, went to the bathroom and then she was attacked by waitress, in Serbian. She explained she doesn't understand, then the waitress yelled at her in English, that this is not the public space and that the toilet is only for the clients. My friend tried to calm her and said- no worries, I am a client, I will buy a drink. She then went inside and tried to order drinks, when she was attacked by 3 people from the restaurant, basically pushed out of the restaurant as if she was contagious. When I called, immediately after, I got lectured and explained that clients are people who make a reservation a month before, not just some random people coming from the street trying to order drinks. Impolite to me and to my friend who came to Belgrade to meet Serbian people and had this experience on the very first day, destroyed my beautiful memories of this place. If you are not living in Belgrade,...
