We were 3 couples ..all seniors exploring Slovenia and Croatia. We chose to stay at Pension Cerkovnik . It was in the midst of beautiful country side with a view of the distant hills and if we zoomed in we could see a bit of the lake as well.||We loved sitting in the balcony and gazing at the mountains with the shifting cloudscapes.||It is a cozy chalet with an attached restaurant which was very convenient for us. |The owner Monica was a lovely hard working lady and was very helpful.|There is no elevator as its a modified cottage. And as our rooms were on the upper floors we had to take up our suitcases. But Monica did help with some of the luggage. ||This Pension is about a 15 minute walk to the lake and a bit away from the town. So it had very serene environs. We used a taxi to get here from Lake Bled. ||The room had a small balcony with a small table. As the room was a bit tight we kept our suitcase outside on the table. There was a TV that we didn't use.... the side tables had side lights which were quite bright. We did miss the kettle as we would have liked to make some coffee after coming in from the rain. The room and bathroom were clean and did have a hair dryer. . The water pressure was good. ||We had lunch in their in - house restaurant downstairs with the view of the mountains and the accompanying gurgle of the little mountain stream that runs along side! We had excellent grilled Tuna, spaghetti, vegetable rice and grilled veggies. |In fact in the 3 days that we stayed there we had lunch and dinner there a few times.||The walk to the Lake was through some orchards . See the ancient St John's Chapel and walk across the bridge and walk into the lovely gardens of Bohinj filled with beautiful flowers. Admire the war sculpture and wander into the few shops there. |We had dinner in the pizza place there. Although when we walked back it was pretty dark! It is on the outskirts so no street lights!||Breakfast was filling.. the usual.. cornflakes, cheese, cold meats, Yogurt and scrambled eggs and fruits. ||From Cerkovnik you can visit Savica falls on the other side of the lake. We didn't go to the Mostnica gorge as the 3 rd day was a rainy one. So we took a taxi to Mostnica Falls . ||This place would be more convenient if one was travelling in ones own vehicle . But I must say Monica was a very friendly...
Read moreAlthough we did not expect a lot since it is a modest Pension with 2 stars we were still surprised and shocked with the attitude of the owner. I have to say that this is not our first touristic experience in Slovenia. We have been often guest during our skiing holidays in Kranjska Gora, we went to spa weekend to various spa etc. and our experiences were always good. This was a big surprise. We spent one weekend, four families (8 adults and 6 kids) in May. We took 7 rooms and were the only guest in the house. First of all for the owner(s) it was very difficult to say at least hello in the morning or in the evening. Whatever we asked for was not possible (I we did not have many request since our stay was short and we were most of the time outside). They even looked the dining room which is also the only space we could use to sit together in the cold evening. The explanation of the owner was that then they need to stay and "baby sits us" as if they were afraid we will take something away. We asked if it is possibility that we ourselves prepare the barbeque (there is a nice place outside,). They did not allow it although they had a gas grill outside for which we were ready to pay. The breakfast also was “negative” surprise, I felt like in the school cantina: white, spongy bread with cheap slamy and slices of chees or butter and jam were the only option (she was too lazy to offer the eggs, boiled or scrambled, at least). It seems that the owner is too busy running the restaurant in some other place that they were almost "offended" with our presence. We had a feeling that it is the best we just pay our money and leave immediately so that they do not need to do anything. Definitely I would not recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy the unique beauty of Bohinj. It can only spoil your pleasure. Look for some...
