As seems to be the case with many fine dining restaurants in Slovenia this essentially offers a daily changing tasting menu only (which I struggled to establish from the website) so once I had realised this we had to down size our booking as that was not suitable for all of our group. Having said which the dishes were generally crowd pleasing choices and there was some flexibility. They will price 2, 3, 4 or 5 courses and on the day we went the main was venison or trout with an alternative option to upsize the vegetarian pasta course if required.
Having got that out of the way the food was truly excellent throughout (e.g. none of us had picked the cauliflower soup from many menus in Slovenia but here on the tasting menu it was a revelation). The decor and ambience was great and once the heat of the day cooled they opened up the roof to offer fantastic views of Lake Bohinj (only downside being some flies about in the heat of a summer evening). Don't expect a wine list, you will be offered wines by the glass matched to the food your are eating. Trust your waiter in this! Every glass of four different wines I tried was excellent, and also very reasonably priced. We dined early and were one of the first tables there, service was superlative and almost overly attentive for the first hour of our meal, but tailed off at the end as the dinner rush was in full swing so we had a bit of a wait to get our bill (perhaps they could do with an extra server at the busiest times). There is some parking but I could not really judge whether it was adequate as the smaller group that ended up going walked...
Read moreDuring our stay at Bohinj, we decided to visit this restaurant and wine bar. We were welcomed even though they were only setting everything up. As aperitif we asked for a suggestion of the wines because it was a wine bar. After some questions what we liked (full body or not, red or white,...) the sommelier came with a very good wine and it wasn't the most expensive one from the chart. It was really a wine accordingly to our taste. The food here (a local pasta) was also accompanied with a fitting wine and was perfect. Our evening here was so good that we decided to come back a few days later (today) to take a full menu - starting with an aperitif. With every course we asked to surprise us with a glass of wine fitting for that course. Eating here is an experience that everyone should do if you come to Bohinj. The food is super, the service is heading towards perfection and the knowledge of the sommelier is perfection. Behind all this you also have the view... Sitting on the terrace, you have the view of the lake and the mountains. All this clear of any weather conditions because the terrace is roofed as you can see in my photo.
This is a place to remember if we come back to Bohinj (or nearby) and I will recommend this place to...
Read moreThe best restaurant we've visited in Slovenia!
Not only the food was perfect, the service was the best I've ever had in my life. The waiter guy was the coolest and calmest waiter I've ever seen. He paid attention to us, answered our questions without a sign of impatience and introduced the courses before serving.
But most of all, he was a relaxing and fun guy to talk to! I especially liked the chocolate mousse, and I told him that I often make mousse at home, but it never turned out as good as their mousse. In 3 minutes this guy comes back with a detailed recipe and shares it with me, I couldn't even believe it :)
When we were there they had the lunch menu which consisted only a few items, but I always prefer places that make less dishes but at higher quality. So in just a few minutes we were served a fantastic chicken and a super steak as main dishes, followed by the chocolate mousse of my life.
If we go back to Lake Bohinj, we'll surely drop in once again!
Thank you Triglav restaurant and give our greetings to the waiter - the couple from Budapest on a rainy Monday in...
