I am so impressed. We rented out two rooms while my daughter raced in the Ironman and it completely exceeded expectations.
The rooms were comfortable and had basic kitchen facilities so we could make our own dinners. The staff were helpful and universally friendly and the owner was incredibly helpful and friendly as well.
They set up a lovely gazebo for the guests to watch the Ironman which was just wonderful for us as it is quite a long race. The dining and drinks area in the atrium of the guest house is very nice and the food is delicious. Not a massively ambitious menu but everything is lovely and one can really enjoy themselves. I simply was not expecting such a cozy and convenient place with such wonderful service.
I especially enjoyed sitting out on my terrace and having a glass of wine and interacting with the other guests. It is a pity they do not have air conditioning but they had lovely fans. They also allowed us to bring our small dog, a big bonus!
The bathroom was small but serviceable and obviously very clean and well taken care of. The parking was very easy and protected so I could keep the bike rack on the car as well as the pod on top of the car to carry luggage.
This place is based in a very nice neighbourhood near an immaculate public park. There is a shopping center nearby with a Woolworths and the usual places to get the supplies one needs. I'm talking about a 3 minute drive from the guest house.
The owners of this guest house are clearly well known and well-regarded people in the neighbourhood and I had to be massively impressed by the gazebo and the free drinks that were offered to anyone who happened to sit down and watch what was happening on the road.
At the risk of overselling, I must say that places like this make South Africa great. As a displaced American, this guest house reminded me why I moved to this country: just a friendly, comfortable retreat where you can have a drink and make friends with the person next to you.
If you are coming for Ironman or an athletic event, you will be in good company...there were 10 competitors there and plenty of space to put your bikes. It is a pity they do not offer bigger refrigerators and more ambitious in-room kitchens but you do get a kettle and a microwave and a decent sink and a small refrigerator. You get basic pots and pans and plates and forks and so forth so if you bring ready-made meals you will be okay. Plus, of course, they offer meals from their own kitchen. We could walk down to the beginning of the Ironman quite easily.
There is a small bar as well as braai areas and plenty of table space and meeting space. There are two plunge pools and spots where you can just sit and socialise.
Just great...
Read moreBlack mould in the bathrooms, I had to be moved to an upstairs room, which had more air flow, in spite of the same mould. I confirmed a booking extension for the weekend, but on the Saturday and Sunday, there was no one at the guest house to let me in. The owner turned her phone off and I was left stranded on Saturday trying to find a very late booking. I returned on the Sunday to check in at 14:00, and again, no one answered the gate, and the owners phone was turned off. Again, leaving me to try to find another booking. The rate agreed was for a long term stay, but due to the guest house being locked out, I had to find alternative more suitable accommodation. The owner then Invoiced me a higher rate, claiming I hadn’t stayed on for the 3...
