Poor. I stayed there at the beginning of my trip and returned a month later. First trip the bathroom wall was moldy and tiles missing, sliding door didn't lock well. The safe stuck when I tried to use it. A person from the front desk came to help. He eventually opened it. I closed it to be sure I would be able to open it a second time. I couldn't get it open. I went back to the front desk and they basically told me to forget it. At one point I went to the front desk and couldn't find a person anywhere. The front doors were wide open with no one in sight. I eventually found someone in the kitchen who eventually found the person who was supposed to be at the desk. A person in our group had her electrical (phone & computer) connectors and various electrical items stolen from her room. A police report was filed. In the evening I wanted to go swimming. I went to the door that opens to the pool. It also serves as the fire exit. It was locked and I could not get it open. I went to the front desk and asked about the locked door. I was told to access the pool through the dining room door. Again I asked about the fire escape door being locked. The desk person explained that if someone came over the wall that person would be able to gain access to the building through that door so it was kept locked. End of discussion. Not a safe situation in the event of a fire. The second time. The hallway smelled like cigarette smoke as did my room. In theory there is no smoking in the hotel. This time I was in the back of the building close to the non working fire exit door. I checked the sliding door to the balcony. The door wasn't locked so I Iocked it then tested it to be sure it was locked. The lock physically went flying off the door. I ket the front deak know and they attached the lock with a larger screw - it held the door closed when tested. The safe did not work...no surprise. A group if us walked along the street being the building. We saw a rather unsavory man leaning over a balcony smoking. He ws in the room next to mine...no wonder the hall and my room stank. I talked with the manager about the smoker. She said she would charge him a large sum for smoking in the room. She said she would not move him. Fortunately, I was leaving that morning. It was my understanding there was no smoking in the building. The manager stated "a smoker is a smoker" and asked me how my trip was. Breakfasts were good. They kindly stored bags and some of the staff were helpful when asked about the city and transportation. The location is conveient. The building could use better mainteance and would benefit from some basic updating. There are lots of good affordable hotels in Cape Town. I would not stay there again and would not recommend it...

My room was not clean for 2 days, I had to go and inform them downstairs to do something about it. There is a constant disturbing noise coming from bottom up of the hotel.on the left wing of the hotel like a disturbing power generator sound that will keep one away whole night . The TV channels limited to about 5 , so nothing interesting to watch on TV. The staff is a little to cold , they almost don't smile. From the time you enter even during your stay. And yes piece of paper was slipped under my door informing me that some maintenance work would take place. Then the bang and the drilling went on for hours adding to me feeling very uncomfortable in that place So will never go back or recommend them to any one or to familyor friends for...

its an old hotel, spent a whole week there, so i noticed a lot, its a victorian style house so it doesnt have a lift, so for the elderly, disabled or you have infants with you request a room on the ground floor, the staff is friendly, the food well its not that good especially if u have an extensive list of dietary requirements, not much options for you, they save and re serve food till its all gone, however long it takes, the location id say is good, within walking distanc of long street, not much of a view in the rooms unless you are lucky to get a room where u can wake up to the view of partial table mountain. its also close to shops, they simply need to renovate , especially the bathrooms. either than that i had fun...
