Not being that familiar with Cape Town and needing some accommodation for a few days while I attended a conference, I started the mammoth task of trying to find accommodation near the conference venue (the Mount Nelson Hotel) that was clean and well run but that did not cost an absolute fortune. After scrolling through the many guesthouse options, I came across Number5 Guesthouse. The rates were very fair, and they offered breakfast as well. I was tired of looking, and the pictures of the rooms looked more than decent. I booked my accommodation and hoped for the best. On arriving in Cape Town, I made my way to the guesthouse via Uber and was immediately welcomed by Charl, who showed me to my room and showed me around the guesthouse. My room was extremely clean and well-furnished and the toilet and shower (which are often seriously needing a refurb) looked new. The kitchen area was open plan, and Charl showed me where I could help myself to coffee and tea (at no charge) whenever I wanted. He informed me that the guesthouse had another two guests also attending the same conference I was attending, so they had organised that breakfast would be ready early for us (I did not even have to request this!). Chrarl also gave me a map of the area as the guesthouse is just off Kloof Street, which is choc a bloc full of restaurant options. I woke up after sleeping relatively well (I never sleep well away from home) and got myself ready for the day. I went to the kitchen and outside deck area for breakfast and was warmly greeted by Sandra, the guesthouse chef. She had prepared fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, freshly baked bread, and eggs for us. The coffee was from a bean machine, and we were all super impressed with the quality of the food and Sandra's spread. I was given keys to access the property at my convenience, and on return from the conference each day, my room was spotless. Patrica, Charl, and Sandra made our stay an absolute pleasure, and I will most...

Read moreI loved my five nights at Number5 Guesthouse. Nathan welcomed me and help me settle into my new home for five days. It’s a wonderful warm and well curated place. I thought perhaps because of the location in the hip Kloof Street area and because it’s priced less than many boutique hotels that I would be one of the older patrons. The guest house draws people of all ages many from France. I had wonderful conversations at breakfast with older French women who were refined and interesting, while flanked by a young family. The breakfast spread was wonderful. I was in the elephant room and it was spacious with a little balcony overlooking the mountains. Not used to solo travel, and I had just dropped my daughter off for a college program in Cape town so I did have my apprehensions. Nathan and the wonderful women at Number5 made me feel at home gave me good recommendations. Plus they were just really kind and fun. I hope to come back to Cape town and I will be...
