We stayed over at Peacehaven On Sea in November this year and stayed in room 204 (a "four-bed A-Grade" room). First the good. The price-to-value ratio is really awesome. Great price for a really spacious, well-equipped room. We are a family of four and the room actually offered six beds: a double in the main bedroom, two singles in the separate spare bedroom and then two stacked beds in the rear part of the open-plan lounge area. Lots of cupboards with lots of packing space, too. It has a large kitchen equipped with a full size fridge/feezer, smallish stove, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, two basins and all the utensils you would need plus more. Also four bar stools and a large counter area spacious enough for family meals. The flat also has a full bathroom (shower, bath and basin) and a separate toilet. The lounge area is really spacious for the price and was equipped with a corner couch, separate couch/chair and a (smallish) wall-mounted TV. Finally, it also includes a plastic kiddies table and four kiddies chairs, also in the lounge area. The flat is equipped with ceiling fans (no aircon, but at the price it was not to be expected).||The main bedroom, spare bedroom and lounge area offer spectacular views over the Scottburgh bay area. No balcony - all fully enclosed with glass-and-aluminium windows. More on this a bit later in my review...||There is an enclosed, shared "braai" (barbeque) area downstairs - really handy when the wind blows or if it rains. And a small pool and jungle gym next to a nice lawn area - great for the kids to swim and play. Peacehaven also has its own laundromat on the top floor (there are two lifts, so you don't have to use the stairs...), which saves packing space if you are prepared to do some washing while on holiday.||So on to the not-so-good... The fridge door has one shelf for tall "upright" containers and bottles (milk, water, etc), but this shelf was unusable - only a small "ledge", so every time the door is yanked open whatever is on the shelf topples over and onto the floor. Not a deal-breaker, just irritating - all your tall items have to lie flat on the glass shelves in the fridge. Then, the shower has no light of its own - it "shares" the light further into the bathroom and is quite poorly lit (a little bit "freaky", as my 7-year-old called it...). The "braai" (barbeque) utensils are there, but not great - rather bring your own. The TV only offers a few channels, but fortunately Boomerang is one of them, so at least something for the kids to watch if the weather is bad and you have seen all the sights. Also note that the USB port on the TV cannot read movie files, only photo files! Be prepared for a lacklustre cleaning service; we were aware that dishwashing and bed-making services are not offered, but we even found the remaining "service" (sweeping floors, wiping kitchen tops, etc) to be below-par on most occasions. Also be prepared for very narrow parking spaces if you have a large car! It took some maneuvering to get my Honda Accord into no 204's cramped parking space...||Then finally, and my largest gripe by a country mile, was the horrendous howling and squealing we had to endure for one night (until I figured out how to shut the noise up) from the wind blowing through small gaps in the sea-facing aluminium window frames. This was especially evident during times where the wind was particularly blustery (so not heard all the time), but it kept is up one night during a heavy spell and almost drove me nuts trying to find ways to make it go quiet! It is the result of an obvious window installation (read: "QUALITY") fault due to some of the openable windows not creating a proper seal when closed. This leads to a continuous, mind-numbing howling through the little gaps - not great at night when you are trying to sleep. The next day I bought a roll of masking tape and taped shut ("DIY-sealed") the problematic gaps during another windy spell until all the howling had stopped. We had peace for the entire time we were there after that, but be warned! Your stay at Peacehaven On Sea could turn into Noisehaven On Sea if you are not prepared!||I would have given this review 4 stars if it were not...
Read moreI'm ashamed and embarrassed as a former South African, bringing my American family and friends to Peacehaven on Sea in Wilderness. There were 7 of us.||||The owner Deon Meyer has been unresponsive to any complaints....he knew we were arriving after dark - no warning of load shedding, was given candles with no base, so candle wax dripping over our hands - then were given lanterns. Not the housekeepers fault - The owners were there the whole time in their own apartment - I recognised the little meerkat they have as a pet, from my last visit.|||| I'd asked for someone to do a small shop for us before, but he would not - there was a tiny bit of coffee, he called a 'starter pack' but nothing else...we did a small shop before we got there, but our milk went sour after one day - couldn't keep icecream/yoghurt cold enough||||Icemaker was dirty...behind garbage bin was full of crumbs....not able to use laundry...no housekeeping (we were there for 4 nights)..outdoor cushions were moldy....indoor blinds broken...curtains wouldn't close properly...towels like sandpaper (only 1 per person) and bathmats very unappealing to stand on. My bathroom blinds wouldn't close properly.||||No shampoo/conditioner and tiny pieces of soap.||||No hairdryers which is something most overseas visitors don't travel with due to voltage differences.||||No hooks in bathrooms for hanging up anything...towels, bathrobes?||||Kitchen cabinets need renovating or at least a paint...very off putting to use dishes.||||I spent one night there before about 4 years ago...I paid for 2 nights, but was only able to stay for 1 and he wouldn't help with refund even though I told him I'd be back...I came back 'cause the photos lured me and I was only here for 8 hours, so never noticed any of these problems and my kids wanted to be right on the beach. It was my sons honeymoon but they hated the honeymoon suite - had to pay extra for it too.||||I wish I'd read these reviews before I made this reservation....but I've learnt now....never again!!! ||||I don't expect to hear back from owner so I wont use the Management response form.||||What a waste of a...
Read moreWe spent a week at Peacehaven and it was wonderful!!! The accommodation is excellent and you could not ask for a better setting - Wilderness is magnificent. We were welcomed by "Lucky" who is incredibly helpful and seems to always be around the complex. The unit we stayed in has everything anyone could ask for and then some! You literally only need to bring your own food - everything else is provided...... There were even two emergency beverage packs for late night arrivals in the cupboard! The little shopping centre is two minutes up the road, so shopping is not a problem. WiFi and a large flat screen TV are available as is a cleaning service. We dealt with Deon and Yolanda on the phone and both were very friendly and helpful. Deon was in Wilderness while we were there, and popped in to say Hi and check that we had everything we needed - thanks Deon, nice to meet you face to face! I can really recommend a stay a Peacehaven - you will love it as we did! One word of caution - camera speed...
