I felt as if the level of hospitality was not where it should have been. I did not feel very welcome by the lady who was at the front desk (Liza) on several occasions and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that way. I just believe that if you're going to be customer facing at a place where guests are going to be staying that the least you could be is friendly.
When I tried ordering breakfast in the morning the waiter mentioned something on the menu and Liza promptly got up from the front desk, came over, informed me the item was not on the menu, snatched the menu away, went back to her desk and placed the menu next to her. I had to walk over and retrieve it myself. She then told me "you have to pay before we will make you anything." Where in the world does a person get off treating guests this way and demanding payment before receiving your meal.
Another incident, on the same trip I may add, I made payment arrangements with the owner and was told I can draw money and just bring it the next day. After about 15 minutes of arriving Liza came barging out the office and told me I had to pay right away and that she needed the money. Obviously I don't mind paying but her demeanor was so rude and I had already made arrangements when I would pay with the owners.
There was a constant sense of hostility toward me as if I wouldn't pay for anything. As if I was going to run off into the night and make my great escape.
I definitely will never stay here again and the only reason I'm not giving it a single star is because the other staff were great and friendly. I really hope something is done about this situation and things change because these type of interactions hurt a business. Especially in times were the hospitality industry is suffering as...
Read moreWe had an interesting stay in Room 1 of the lodge. Firstly, we struggled to get to the house, google maps took us to a completely different place so watch out for that. Without a locals help, we would not have found it. It is three roads up for the beach and not really a walk away.
Upon arriving, we were greeted with a large event which nobody was wearing their masks or slightly social distancing, even the owner of the lodge who checked us in was not wearing a mask. We were bumping through people and children to get to the room. We just wished we were warned of this.
The main thing for us was that the photos don't look anything like the actual accommodation. They told a completely different story and we were quite disappointed. The beds were two single foam mattresses and it was more grimy then we expected. Not only the room and bathroom but especially the kitchen. Also, it was smaller and not private.
One thing we have to agree one with another reviewer is the low level of hospitality for the owner in our experience. The other workers at the lodge were amazing, friendly and very helpful but we felt general uncomfortablity around the owner in terms of her temperament and general attitude towards us. She is mainly absent and was not present in checking us out.
They is hardly wifi, expect to use your own...
Read moreGreat location with beautiful views, sweeping panoramas of the beach, truly stunning. Friendly staff too, although a slightly weirdly high ratio of volunteers to guests which made for a slightly strange atmosphere.||There’s a couple of slightly irritating things in this hostel, which they could easily sort out to make it a really good stay. The owners need to get over their disdain for WiFi. It’s the only place I stayed at for the entire of South Africa which didn’t offer free WiFi (apart from a token slow small bit every 12 hours), supposedly so people talk to each other. This isn’t what makes people talk to each other, there are plenty of hostels with WiFi and better atmosphere so this clearly isn’t the deciding factor.||Like a lot of hostels in South Africa it’s also built for summer and doesn’t really know how to adjust when its winter. Large bay windows in the dorms look fantastic but are pretty cold so they could do with a couple of heaters at night. They also need to fix the blinds on some of them so that you don’t get woken up by the sun early all the time (would also help with the heat).||All in, we had a good time and it’s very friendly atmosphere and a beautiful place. They had good advice about what to do in the area too which is always great, the canoe/walk kingfisher...
