I felt as if the level of hospitality was not where it should have been. I did not feel very welcome by the lady who was at the front desk (Liza) on several occasions and I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that way. I just believe that if you're going to be customer facing at a place where guests are going to be staying that the least you could be is friendly.

When I tried ordering breakfast in the morning the waiter mentioned something on the menu and Liza promptly got up from the front desk, came over, informed me the item was not on the menu, snatched the menu away, went back to her desk and placed the menu next to her. I had to walk over and retrieve it myself. She then told me "you have to pay before we will make you anything." Where in the world does a person get off treating guests this way and demanding payment before receiving your meal.

Another incident, on the same trip I may add, I made payment arrangements with the owner and was told I can draw money and just bring it the next day. After about 15 minutes of arriving Liza came barging out the office and told me I had to pay right away and that she needed the money. Obviously I don't mind paying but her demeanor was so rude and I had already made arrangements when I would pay with the owners.

There was a constant sense of hostility toward me as if I wouldn't pay for anything. As if I was going to run off into the night and make my great escape.

I definitely will never stay here again and the only reason I'm not giving it a single star is because the other staff were great and friendly. I really hope something is done about this situation and things change because these type of interactions hurt a business. Especially in times were the hospitality industry is suffering as...

We had an interesting stay in Room 1 of the lodge. Firstly, we struggled to get to the house, google maps took us to a completely different place so watch out for that. Without a locals help, we would not have found it. It is three roads up for the beach and not really a walk away.

Upon arriving, we were greeted with a large event which nobody was wearing their masks or slightly social distancing, even the owner of the lodge who checked us in was not wearing a mask. We were bumping through people and children to get to the room. We just wished we were warned of this.

The main thing for us was that the photos don't look anything like the actual accommodation. They told a completely different story and we were quite disappointed. The beds were two single foam mattresses and it was more grimy then we expected. Not only the room and bathroom but especially the kitchen. Also, it was smaller and not private.

One thing we have to agree one with another reviewer is the low level of hospitality for the owner in our experience. The other workers at the lodge were amazing, friendly and very helpful but we felt general uncomfortablity around the owner in terms of her temperament and general attitude towards us. She is mainly absent and was not present in checking us out.

They is hardly wifi, expect to use your own...

Great location with beautiful views, sweeping panoramas of the beach, truly stunning. Friendly staff too, although a slightly weirdly high ratio of volunteers to guests which made for a slightly strange atmosphere.||There’s a couple of slightly irritating things in this hostel, which they could easily sort out to make it a really good stay. The owners need to get over their disdain for WiFi. It’s the only place I stayed at for the entire of South Africa which didn’t offer free WiFi (apart from a token slow small bit every 12 hours), supposedly so people talk to each other. This isn’t what makes people talk to each other, there are plenty of hostels with WiFi and better atmosphere so this clearly isn’t the deciding factor.||Like a lot of hostels in South Africa it’s also built for summer and doesn’t really know how to adjust when its winter. Large bay windows in the dorms look fantastic but are pretty cold so they could do with a couple of heaters at night. They also need to fix the blinds on some of them so that you don’t get woken up by the sun early all the time (would also help with the heat).||All in, we had a good time and it’s very friendly atmosphere and a beautiful place. They had good advice about what to do in the area too which is always great, the canoe/walk kingfisher...

Excellent infrastructure. Regular price for the backpacker (about 220Rands per night per person). However, the WiFi is limited for 2 hours of usage per day, which can be a HUGE PROBLEM for hitchhikers. Moreover, the hostel has a small but very functional communal kitchen with a shared fridge, a stove, and a hot water supply. The hostel is very close to the beach, BUT the path to it is terrible (see the photos below)! At least when I went ( in February 2020 ), the only road to the hostel is made of sand (when rain complicates a lot to walk there), and the is NO LIGHT in this little street -after 20h, I couldn’t see a foot in front of me. The main stores in the city are about 10 minutes' walking distance, and it is good to know to take there is no Uber or whatever in the town. The Wilderness National parking is pretty far. I went there walking and took me a little bit less than 2 hours - and the road does not have sidewalks for pedestrians, so I definitely not recommend it. In conclusion, I would recommend this place if you want a place with a good view of the beach, next to the city centre, and you don’t bother to ask for a shuttle to go to the park. Otherwise, if you want just to be in nature and next to the National Park, this is NOT the better option.

This hostel is in an EPIC location. It’s literally like a hundred meter walk to the beach. And the landscape here is just incredible. In the dorms on the upper floor the views are unmatched. A dorm room with this view at this price is just unreal. They also have a really outdoor common area and when I was there (on a Sunday) they had live music until 6pm which was really nice as well. I didn’t eat there but they have a decent selection. Town however, is just a short 10 minute walk for a lot of good options. The rooms themselves were extremely spacious. There was even other furniture in the rooms like a couch and lounge chairs to chill on. The beds themselves weren’t the most comfy but they were by no means bad beds. I don’t mind it as I wake up early but there are no blinds in the windows so if you’re sensitive to light you may want to bring a mask or you’ll be waking up with the sunrise. WiFi was pretty good as well which was nice. Overall a great stay, I would definitely come here again.

What an incredibly beautiful place this was! We stayed in the shared dorm room downstairs, which had a stunning view of the beach. Half of the room was made up of glass doors, and I was fortunate enough to have my bed located right next to one. This allowed me to feel the ocean breeze, smell the salt in the air, and listen to the soothing sounds of the waves. While it could get a little chilly at times, it was never too cold to enjoy. Make sure to indulge in the delicious food options available at the facility, particularly the pizza which was outstanding. The staff were all incredibly friendly and hospitable, making our stay all the more enjoyable. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
