I stayed at the Bluebottle Guesthouse for 6 weeks and it was a real pleasure. Andrew and Taryn are wonderful hosts. They made me a lovely breakfast each morning and helped me out with many things that I needed during my stay, for example, renting a car. I even went for a surf with Andrew. I originally told Andrew the wrong dates for my stay and changing them was not a problem. He was very kind about this considering the inconvenience I may have caused him.
My room was incredible. Andrew has a passion for butterflies and there are beautiful butterflies above the bed. It was spacious and light and I had all the things I needed. The view from my balcony is particularly fantastic. I have never woken up or gone to bed to such sights. My room was cleaned every day to a high standard. A washing service was provided and my clothes would come back beautifully folded. There were also good drinks and snacks in the fridge.
Andrew and Taryn have two children, Sasha and Charlotte, both are very cute and whenever they are around they bring a lovely energy to the room. They also have two dogs and two cats, all are very friendly. The dogs can bark when they first meet you, but this was never a problem for me. I was never woken by any noise from the dogs or children.
Other things which reviewers commented on... there is free WiFi, it is very close to False Bay train station, the market on Fridays is fantastic, the surf is great, there are hikes close by.
Overall, a perfect stay, and from speaking to other B&B goers in Muizenberg about their experience, I am 100% sure that this is where you should stay if you come to visit.
Room Tip: Cape Blue is the biggest, most spacious, most luxurious. You even get your own plate collection and have the best possible view...
Read moreMy husband and I travelled for business, and our client booked us into the Bluebottle Guesthouse. Despite the address being correct on Google Maps, we struggled to find the guesthouse. It was also challenging to find parking, which is outside on the street.
Upon arrival, we were surprised to learn we had to climb about 150 steps to reach our destination. With all our luggage, the climb was challenging (I tore a ligament in my foot a few weeks ago and was still recovering). Andrew, the owner, met us at the guesthouse.
Our client never arranged for early check-in, but Dee (the manager) accommodated us in another room - 5-star service!
The room was spacious and had a workstation and decent wi-fi. The shower was too small for my tall husband, who has the build of a rugby player. When we mentioned it to Dee upon check-out, she said she would make a note so that when we book again, she will give us a room with a more spacious shower. The balcony of the rooms on the second floor has an impressive ocean view! I missed a decent set of chairs outside our room (my husband and I love sitting outside watching the ocean during the day and the stars at night).
Dee cooks a decent breakfast! My spinach and feta omelette was perfect, and my husband loved his traditional breakfast with bacon and eggs.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay and will not hesitate to book a room at the Bluebottle...
Read moreLovely people, nice (slightly dated) rooms, but although the view from the building is amazing, the location is terrible... Over 160 steps and over 130 flights of stairs almost straight up a hill. This is absolutely NO fun with a suitcase. It's doable with no luggage but as there are no Private parking places, you can't leave anything in your car and just carry up the bare minimum.
Each morning we got woken up by the train horn that goes full throttle at 05.30!!! As you sleep with the Windows open you will be immediately wide awake.
The staff and owners are extremely nice. The rooms are spacious, a bit dated but pretty well maintained. It's good value for money but until they realise a solution for at least the luggage (elevator/slide on a track) this place I would not recommend.
If you are a hiker and don't care about climbing stairs, this is a very nice place with good...
