My recent visit to The Striped Horse was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment I stepped inside, I was impressed by the vibe and overall atmosphere of the place. The décor strikes the perfect balance between trendy and cosy, making it an ideal spot for a casual meal or a night out with friends. But what stood out even more was how impeccably clean everything was. The tables were spotless, the bar area gleamed, and even the restrooms were maintained to the highest standard. This attention to detail immediately set the tone for an exceptional dining experience.
Now, let’s get to the heart of the matter—the food. Wow, where do I even start? Everything I ordered was bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. I opted for one of their signature dishes (mention your favourite dish here if applicable, e.g., "their juicy burger with sweet potato fries" or "their grilled calamari with a zesty lemon butter sauce"), and it was absolutely delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh, the seasoning was on point, and the portion size was generous. Each bite was a delight, and I found myself savouring every single flavour on the plate.
What really impressed me was the variety on the menu. Whether you’re in the mood for comfort food, a lighter option, or something adventurous, The Striped Horse has something for everyone. I also couldn’t resist trying one of their craft beers, which was a fantastic pairing with my meal. It’s clear they’ve put a lot of thought into not just their food but also their drink selection, creating an experience that’s cohesive and satisfying from start to finish.
The ambiance of the place deserves special mention as well. The music playing in the background was upbeat but not overwhelming, creating a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. The lighting was just right—not too bright, not too dim—making it the perfect setting to enjoy a meal and good conversation. The combination of stylish décor, friendly energy, and an overall welcoming vibe made my visit all the more enjoyable.
And then there’s the service, which was outstanding. From the moment I arrived, the staff were attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in making sure I had a great experience. They took the time to explain the menu, offered excellent recommendations, and checked in periodically to ensure everything was to my liking. It’s always a pleasure to dine somewhere where the team clearly takes pride in what they do, and The Striped Horse is no exception.
Overall, The Striped Horse delivered on every level—delicious food, an immaculately clean environment, a fantastic atmosphere, and top-notch service. It’s rare to find a place that excels in so many areas, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is a must-visit spot that I can’t recommend enough. Thank you, The Striped Horse, for an unforgettable dining experience. I’ll definitely be back soon to try more of your incredible...
Read moreAtrocious rude manager. Falsely accused my girlfriend of stealing glasses, says the camera caught us stealing glasses but the footage shows nothing at all. Earlier this year my girlfriend and I were accused of stealing glasses. We were one of two, maybe three tables on a Monday evening. Having been striped horse regulars, naturally we visited the horse a week later. The manager came to our table and presented us with a bill of four glasses at R80 per glass. We were shocked and confused. He said that we stole them the previous week. Obviously, we protested but he was convinced that it was us. Apparently one of the runners said that he saw us stealing four glasses, the manager himself wasn't even on shift that Monday evening. I asked for the camera footage and the camera showed us walking out, NO GLASSES IN HAND. Still, the manager got extremely rude and loud, completely ignored refused to reason. Needless to say we didn't and will not pay for something that we did not steal. And won't be accused of it either.
On that Monday evening I had two beers, my girlfriend had two savannas, which she drinks out of the bottle. So, EVEN IF WE HAD stolen glasses, we could've only taken two. The manager, WHO WASN'T EVEN THERE, wrongfully berated us. We had been friendly and frequent customers who tipped the staff very well every single time. Even before this incident we were friendly with the manager as well.
Last night was the first time in months that we visited the horse after that debacle. We ordered drinks and sipped them in the outside area. The same manager them came up to us and told us to leave because we are now apparently banned. The bouncer came up to my girlfriend and even he was confused about the situation because we had always been friendly and were familiar faces.
SO DISAPPOINTING! I don’t know what the hell happened that Monday evening with the staff, maybe they had shortages to pay for and thought they could use our money for instead. I do not know.
We would love to sort this out because we genuinely love coming here. But clearly, reason is out the window. Sharing it here to see if anyone has had similar experiences at this place.

Read moreI had a disappointing and frustrating experience at Stripe Horse recently. About two weeks ago, my partner and I visited the bar and ordered two Cuba Libre cocktails. The menu on the wall clearly listed the price as R65, and we even confirmed this with a blonde lady who looked like the manager. However, when we placed the order with a different bartender , he told us the price was R85 because the menu on the wall was outdated, and he showed us a laminated menu with higher prices.
Despite this, I explained that we were told the wall menu prices were correct. The bartender insisted we pay the higher price, and without my consent, he tapped my card for R170. This felt incredibly rude, but I didn’t want to ruin the night by causing a scene.
Later that night, my boyfriend went to order the same drinks, and this time the bartender charged R180 without explanation or permission, sneakily adding R10 extra. He didn’t mention it was a tip or ask if we wanted to add one — he simply decided to charge more.
When we returned again this past Saturday, we ordered a Double Brandy and Coke. On the wall menu, the price was R60, and this time they charged the correct amount. However, according to the laminated menu, the price should have been higher, yet we weren’t overcharged this time. This inconsistency is extremely frustrating, and it’s clear that the staff are either poorly trained or deliberately misleading customers.
It feels like the bartenders are taking advantage of customers, especially since most people are drinking and unlikely to notice small price differences or added charges. The lack of transparency and honesty here is unacceptable.
If you plan to visit Stripe Horse, be sure to double-check prices with the manager and ask for a receipt. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless they fix their pricing discrepancies and ensure their staff are honest and transparent...
