Compared to my multiple previous stays at little boutique hotels in Stellenbosch, this experience was a nightmare.
While the booking stipulations- ironically enough- states “No Kids”, a lot of teenagers on a sports camp were accommodated here during my stay.
And I was put in a room right next to theirs.
I can’t imagine, and have never seen, any other boutique property in Stellenbosch accommodate a group like this since it creates a guest experience counter-opposite to what most visitors want.
But Evergreen Manor did, and it completely ruined my stay.
The kids were extremely noisy, till late into the night. They made all the beautiful outdoor spaces inaccessible for other guests, since there were so many of them.
I complained, asked to be allowed to check out with a refund. Nothing. I spoke to the kids multiple times, trying to get them to be more considerate. Nothing.
At the end of my stay I felt completely drained and frustrated, the opposite of what I came here for.
Why would anyone want to stay at property that so clearly values filling rooms over the quality of their guests’ experience?
There are plenty of other wonderful options in Stellenbosch. I, for one, will never return to...
Read moreEvergreen Manor was our place of choice for our first outing since March and lockdown. a very much needed time away. We just love this guesthouse and Stellenbosch. Evergreen Manor is ideally situated, close to the University, Botanical Gardens and town, everything within walking distance. The Manor House is perfect for a Romantic weekend away, the rooms are huge, have everything you need and very comfortable. The staff are more than accommodating, Clayton and Barend, thank you for your kind attention to us and Riel for your excellent hospitality and your big happy heart. Breakfasts are a treat and the Covid policies in place are strict, but you still feel completely comfortable. The mini bar is still available as is the lovely complimentary port, there is still TV if you you want to watch it, there is no housekeeping if you just stay for the weekend but there is for 3 days or longer stays. I have noticed that many hotels and guesthouses are removing some of these little luxuries so it was nice that these were still there. So you just have to make your own bed and hang up your towels, not an issue to keep everyone safe and healthy. We came home feeling much relaxed and will be...
Read moreLovely large room and helpful service but I had some issues about value for money. For a pricey small hotel to have no shampoo or body lotion, generic soap, broken soap tray in the shower and intermittent internet is not good enough. I was surprised to discover when I opened the curtains in the morning that the windows had been shut tight during turndown service, maybe for security reasons, but also maybe one of the reasons why I slept badly. They could do better at this price point. I of course saw the items in the bath tray but they did not include shampoo or body lotion. And I forgot to mention that the toilet door handles don't turn and I had to wrestle the door open to get out of the toilet cubicle. These are all small things which could easily...
