The Shilla Stay hotel isn't welcoming of guests and treats guests as if we are just numbers. The hotel room was crammed and we could hardly walk to the bathroom without bumping into each other. The bathroom light, if kept on at night, leaked out through a badly designed opening which made it hard for the person sleeping closest the toilet, to fall asleep. The room is designed for two but it is really comfortable if just one person was occupying it.||The breakfast buffet was quite decent and good value for money. The toiletries were very nice and we liked that the hotel provided more than one type of tea. The best thing about the room was the toilet bidet.||Overall, the hotel seems to want to offer minimum service to guests, from the very moment you communicate with them. I had booked to stay 2 nights there and since night 1 fell on my birthday, I asked if the hotel could provide anything special. The reply came back "Sorry no special events are planned". I do not expect the hotel to plan an event for me, but most good hotels would offer an early check-in or late check-out. Or complimentary cocktails. Or at the very least, a discount voucher for lunch or dinner. This hotel can't be bothered to do the slightest bit extra to make a special occasion memorable. Pretty short-sighted business management. ||As I had made the mistake of paying for 2 days of breakfasts before realising that we would have to leave for the airport before the hotel restaurant is open for breakfast, I requested the hotel staff to cancel breakfast for Day 2. The hotel staff kept misunderstanding that I wanted to cancel breakfast for Day 1 and eventually when they understood, they agreed to cancel. But after cancelling my payment for room and breakfast, they then said Oh they made a mistake in cancelling as the system actually does not allow cancellations. Even if the system is designed to be so unhelpful to guests, the staff could have shown some initiative by offering to give us some buns to take away to eat at the airport. But no.||I would not recommend Shilla Stay to even my enemies. Unless the management and staff shows it is...
ย ย ย Read moreRidiculous aircon situation. Its obviously as warm outside as inside. But the temperature is set at 26 degree celsius at night. They literally switch off the aircon at night. WHO DOES THAT? Absolutely ridiculous and if I had known, I would have not booked this nonsense of a hotel.||They asked us to open the window (which brings in a ton of NOISE) or they will send a fan. I mean, what? I was really upset because YOU HAVE TO TELL CUSTOMERS SUCH THINGS WHEN BOOKING. Its like going to a burger shop, pay for a burger and they say the burger buns are not included. Huh?||Anyway, I spoke to them and they sent in a cooler fan and hope it helps tonight. Still dumb though, you do not get to choose how cold or warm a customer wants their room. Its ridiculous.||Customer service was nice, although the command of english is not as good as even more secluded hotels iโve stayed in jeju, they tried their best. Iโm sure the dumb hotel policy for the aircon is not their fault so i cant fault them. Parking is free, gym is great.||The toilet had this constant pee smell despite being cleaned and flushed and with no visible issues. I think internally, the rubber collar has disintegrated which allows smells to pass through. So i did tell them about this but its the same. Meh. Quite sad that i paid a premium for this stay but iโm so so upset. ||PLEASE DO NOT STAY AT SHILLA STAY until management learns that this aircon policy is nonsense. No hotel is allowed to control your room temperature. Thats terrible. This is a 4-star hotel by the way. What a joke. And come on, its literally summer now. Imagine them saying, โhey its hot, we are going to off the hot water nowโ, haha, they wouldnt do that right? So what gave them the right to cut off the aircon?!?!?! Oh by the way, they even control the temperature setting during the DAY! Sickening. ||I hope i dont wake up in the middle of the night tonight because of the heat. Right now, iโm chiling in the room, but its disgustingly warm cause the aircon doesnt wanna go below 25...
ย ย ย Read moreThis hotel is new, Inexpensive centrally-located business hotel targeting Chinese tourists to Jeju tourism boom in recent decades.
I felt we were staying in a Chinese country with more Chinese guests and, mostly Chinese TV Channels in the guest rooms.
Conveniently located to shops and late night eateries but nothing stands out as great-just convenient.
The buffet breakfast is comfort food but low-budgets were clearly displayed. But, from this 12th and top floor level, the 3-side panorama view over the conventional Jeju town could be interesting to some.
You would prefer North-facing guest room as it has an open view to the main shopping strip but the other sides are blocked by adjacent buildings or clubs and old diners. 7-11th floors could afford some privacy as this building is the tallest in the block.
The staff often were not as friendly toward Koreans as they were to other foreign guests. The hotel also lacks a designated concierge service as the front desk staff are minimaply available.
It was a clean modern sleeping place but there is nothing else to say really. The stay was basic but good enough.
One last thing that bothered me during my stay - I wish they were more hospitable and friendly genuinely. This is something that cannot be taught to the current employees and I sensed their distant attitude right from the check-in time. Hope it all...
