Since there are no recent reviews, I wanted to share my recent experience. Given the decent reviews, we were looking forward to staying here, especially as it was priced affordably vs other options. However, this turned out to be the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my 25 years of traveling across numerous continents and hotels. ||||I booked a triple room (two doubles and a single) as I was traveling solo with three kids. It's pretty hard to find a room that will sleep 4 in Seoul. Well, this is where “you get what you pay for”. Upon walking into the room, we were shocked to find it was a double room and they had simply brought in an extra single bed and placed it right in the entry area. The bed blocked access to the room, and one could only enter the room by squeezing in between two beds. Additionally, the room smelled strongly of bleach and started to make us feel nauseous. Lastly, the room was dirty. There were stains on the floor and sofa. It had an overall unkempt and dirty feel as if it was not recently cleaned. Overall the hotel quality was more of a 2.5 or 2 star hotel, definitely not a 3 star hotel. ||||In shock about the bed situation, I immediately messaged the front desk (you can only message them through an app, luckily I already had WhatsApp). When the front desk person arrived I pointed out that this room did not appear like the listing picture with 3 beds placed in a manner which didn’t block the doorway nor pose a fire hazard. He insisted the room was a triple, until finally he admitted that the room wasn’t a “true triple”. He said that since they were sold out of “true triples” the best he could do is offer us two double rooms. He wanted two of my elementary-aged children to sleep on a different floor from me. I told him not only was this unsafe but illegal in most countries and I would not do this. He kept insisting the room was fine, as well as trying to convince me to have the kids sleep on a different floor. I began to realize we were in an unsafe situation, and said I wanted to cancel my reservation. At this point I was willing to find any other hotel room in the city, at any cost. He then said that since we had entered the room and “messed up the beds”, (my kids sat on a bed for 5 mins because there was no place to stand or sit) we had to pay for the entire night. I said that they had falsely sold this room as a triple when it was a double, and that I would not pay. But he said that if I didn’t agree to pay for one night (since we had “entered” the room), we would have to pay for all three nights! In desperation, I proposed that I would pay for the room cleaning, if their issue was that my kids sat on the beds for a moment. But he wouldn’t allow that, and as I grew further distressed about our situation, I agreed to the 1 night charge just so we could leave. He made me hand write a note to agree to this, but instead I wrote a note detailing the fraudulent listing. I needed to do anything to get out of there. ||||This was a very scary experience for me and my kids. I want everyone to know the truth before booking. The rooms are old and dirty. There is no full time front desk. If you arrive before check-in at 3pm, you have to pay egregious costs to store your luggage in lockers in the lobby. There is also no dining establishment on site. There is no front desk personnel in the evenings. Honestly, the reviews about cleanliness seem fake to me as well, given the disgusting condition...
Read moreRead moreI had a 5 days, 4 nights stay in ACUBE Hotel Dongdaemun in July 2019. I must say that this hotel had been a very good one for female solo travelers like me. ||I arrived Seoul at around 9AM and check-in was supposedly not until 3PM. When I did my online reservation, I had made a special request for an early check-in and the hotel was gracious enough to give my request and checked me in as soon as I arrived. The free room upgrade was also a lovely bonus!!||With this being my second time in Seoul, I purposedly chose to stay in the Dongdaemun area as the Myeongdong area was too busy and touristy for me. And I'm glad I chose this neighborhood as it is quiet and more laid-back but has almost everything within arm's reach! || There are 2 airport shuttle terminals (2-5 minute walk)| A convenience store at the corner| 2 banks and fruit stands within the same street| An entire lane of money exchange stalls nearby| Blue Bus Terminals around the area (2 minute walk)| Exit 7 of Dongdaemun Design History and Culture Park Station (thru the Euljistar Mall) which connects you all the way to Exit 1 of this subway station and brings you to the Green (Line 2) , Blue (Line 4), and Purple (Line 5) lines.| A chicken & beer place at the corner by rhe convenience store. ||It is also very close to Gwangjang Market Place and Dongdaemun Design Plaza/History and Culture Park (both about 5 to 10 minutes away by foot).||The rooms are very clean. The bed is queen-sized and soft (foam and not spring). The room is spacious for one traveler. The bathroom is spacious enough for the size of an Asian woman but the bath is a little bit small and cramped up in space. However, I love how clean the bathroom is and how the toilet seat is automated with controls for bidet, dryer, and seat heater.||Breakfast was nothing exceptional but was good enough. I noted that they alternated the menu every 2-3 days.||Internet wifi was fast and uninterrupted.||The staff were easy to talk to as they understood English (but you might have to speak slowly). In particular, I appreciated the kindness of Seol Kim and Jay (both receptionists).||I am glad to have chosen this hotel for my first trip alone. The place definitely lives up to its slogan --- accessible, affordable, and amiable. I will definitely recommend this place to family and friends who will visit Seoul and will definitely come back here on my next...
