G2 Hotel Seoul – Great Location, Friendly Staff, But Some Flaws
Our stay at G2 Hotel in Seoul was generally pleasant, but there are a few things worth mentioning for future guests.
First of all, the location is excellent. The hotel is just about a 10-minute walk from one of the busiest and most popular streets in the area. The walk doesn’t feel long at all—there’s so much to see along the way that you don’t even realize how far you’ve walked. Personally, I wouldn’t enjoy staying on that busy street, so this slightly tucked-away location was perfect. It’s central, but still peaceful.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, especially during our filming sessions—they were great. That said, there were a few shortcomings. This is a 4-star hotel, and we usually stay at 4 or 5-star properties. When we arrived with our luggage, there was no bellboy or porter to help us take our bags to the room. We had to do it ourselves, which was disappointing, especially as a family with a young child. When we checked out, someone from reception did come to help, but upon arrival, there was only one lady at the front desk, and understandably, she couldn’t leave her station or carry our bags.
Now, about the breakfast… we went down once and didn’t go back. We just couldn’t find anything we liked. No egg station, no variety that suited our tastes. I honestly don’t understand how some guests gave the breakfast five stars. I know food is a matter of personal taste, but I genuinely couldn’t find anything enjoyable to eat.
The hotel heavily promotes its second-floor restaurant with photos and menus, but after such a poor breakfast experience, we didn’t even consider trying it later in the day. If the kitchen can’t impress at breakfast, why would we trust it for lunch or dinner? Their marketing is misleading too—there’s a beautifully staged pizza photo in the lobby, but I highly doubt they can actually deliver something that looks or tastes like that.
One more thing I can’t leave out: the smell. There’s a faint odor in the hallways and rooms—noticeable when you first enter, though you do get used to it after a while. But every time you return from outside, you smell it again. It seems like a plumbing or drainage issue. The cleaning staff, however, do a fantastic job. The room was spotless every day. But this kind of smell is not something a cleaner can fix; it’s probably a deeper maintenance issue.
Despite all this, I’m still giving the hotel 5 stars—mainly because of the great location, the staff’s attitude, and the overall cleanliness. However, the hotel does have some areas that need improvement.
Bottom line: If you come with the right expectations, you’ll likely enjoy your stay. But there are definitely a few things management should...
Read moreWe intended to stay here for 6 days while exploring Seoul. Usually, when we book hotels for stays longer than 3 days, they’re pretty accommodating in upgrading our room or offering certain hotel amenities. G2 hotel concierge made no effort to do so. To make matters worse, we were given the wrong room from what we booked (our travel agency room description said 2 queen beds, but we were booked a single bed). When we brought this up to the staff, they weren’t very helpful in trying to find a resolution and simply told us to contact our travel agency instead for any changes. Additionally, when we said we wanted to book the larger room, the concierge implied it was too expensive for us, when it really wasn’t. The room we were given was small and was supposed to be a non-smoking room but definitely still smells of smoke. The hallways also smell suspiciously like sewer. We were placed on the third floor with a window directly across from another building window so we had to keep our curtains closed the whole time, limiting any natural light that would have crept in between the 15 inches between building walls. The WiFi is not reliable. The bathrooms are dirty with mildew and residual soap. And there were pee stains still on the toilet. And the shower tub was clogged. The bathroom shower uses 1 single very battered cloth curtain and reminded me of a motel and not 4 star hotel. The website also boasts a “rainfall” shower but it’s not a waterfall shower, it’s a regular shower head. They use generic “Grand Hotel Seoul” shower products and there’s no lotion provided with the amenities. The positives are…they do provide the other basic amenities, toothbrush, brush, shower cap, cotton packs, and very thin disposable slippers. The bed is comfortable and the TV is a smart TV that casts easily from mobile devices so you can watch your favorites shows. There’s also plenty of USB outlets. There’s also laundry (2 washers and 2 dryers) in the basement that’s free to use but you can only use their detergent which you need to buy for 5000 Korean won. The washer is small, but the dryer is actually a decent size. Fortunately our travel agency was able to rebook us in a different hotel with 2 queen beds so we ended our stay early. There are better hotels in Seoul/myeongdong for this price range, in fact there are better...
Read moreWe picked this hotel for a 15-night stay based on some good reviews on Tripadvisor and price.||Price: definitely not the type of big chain hotels like Marriott, Lotte, Hilton or Sofitel. It is also much less expensive. I also got a better rate booking directly with the hotel, as I compared prices offered by Expedia or Booking.com or Agoda or Hotel.com. No problem at all communicating with the hotel directly through email.||Location: across the hotel is a Bethany's Square which is a huge complex of Presbyterian Church, Pastor's residence, education hall and memorial hall. Hence the hotel is fairly quiet, even though there are many small restaurants in the same block. Supyo-ro is a main street but traffic is usually sparse. ||Neighbourhood: many many coffee shops and restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood. The variety is a bit limited because the majority of restaurants serve bbq meat or octopus or hotpots. Metro stations are about 10 mins walk so it is easy to get to the subway. ||Facilities: the roof-top garden is a great feature as it offers panoramic view of the city. The laundry room in the basement has two washers and two dryers. The wash cycle takes 1.5 hours so be careful not to go sightseeing after starting tge laundry. The small gym is adequate. |There is no restaurant onsite. The restaurant and buffet photos at the hotel website are not up-to-date. ||Room: we had a King room with two beds. A small fridge and safe. Enough space for two. Storage space is limited as there us only one closet. The hotel can easily add some wall shelves. We had to leave our stuff in the luggages. Shower was good as well as the "high-teach" toilet.||Cliental: mostly single or couples. Had not seen large families and children.||The hotel was very quiet. Perhaps April was not busy tourist season. We were usually alone in one of the two...
