Serious Health & Safety problems with little to no help from hotel managers!
I entered room 346 and within less than ~10 minutes a large bathroom mirror fell off the wall which I was standing in front of less than 1 minute earlier.
Just imagine if I or a child or an elderly or vulnerable person was hit by this mirror and injured (or worse) by shards of glass.
All staff did was clean the mess up leaving shards still on the bathroom sink surface area, which I cleaned (see photos, also have video).
I requested another room as this room was clearly not safe, the reception staff offered to downgrade me …seriously, how poor is that!
I requested thay refund the organisation I work for who had paid for the room and the managers refused to give me a decision, they basically ignored me with a smile!
I contacted their CEO, Guillermo Vallet who unsurprisingly also ignored my contact.
The organisation I work for will not be booking within this hotel group again.
This hotel should not be graded 4-star, it is 3-star at best. Their managers only work daytimes, meaning no hotel staff are prepared to help any guests without their approval, but even when you discuss a problem you will simply get a warm smile and then you will be ignored!
The hotel management are thin vaneered at best, lacking in integrity, take this review as factual and do not schedule any visits that include staying within the Catalonia Hotels & Resorts chain if health and safety are important to you.
In response to the unamed person who has replied, so we'll use the hotel chains CEO, Mr Guillermo Vallet.
Dear Mr Vallet,
You are indeed incorrect, I was in the room just 10 minutes, I never left the room to re-enter it so how on earth could you know that the room was okay???
Additionally, I called reception via the room phone, I never went to the reception, your staff visited the room within 5-minutes along with my business colleagues who also witnessed how your staff dealt with this.
I was working from 7.30 AM to 7.00 PM, but your managers are only available between 9.00 AM and 5.00 PM, and this is a 4 star hotel, really?
Your managers called me the once, just once, there is nothing wrong with my mobile and I tried to meet your managers at the reception several times only to be told they have gone home, your staff on reception were extremely embarrassed and they were in perfect agreement that your managers were really not bothering.
The compensation you offered was a cheap bottle of wine, which simply added insult to unjury.
I will never come back to a hotel that has a culture of thin vaneered management that simply is only intent on outcomes that benefit their objectives, and in this case it certainly does not include guest health and safety.
Dear Mr Vallet, since your staff have called out my name, why don't you be a real leader and reply yourself, or are you going to igonore...
Read moreThe Catalonia Barcelona Plaza is a really nice hotel for a business trip. It's not a luxury property and it doesn't ooze local character, but it's very well run with a great staff, and I appreciate the clean, modern aesthetic. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and I really liked the bartenders (with whom I had many interactions). Housekeeping does a great job, too -- I mean, my accommodations were immaculate. ||The guest rooms (I was in 636) are very comfortable, and in particular I appreciate the bathrooms. The showers are just fantastic -- all I could ask for, with insane water pressure, really stable temperature regulation and simple controls. Honestly, a shower here is as good as it gets, anywhere at any price. Bathroom design is nice, too. It's minimalist and tasteful, with quality fittings and fixtures. Beds are large, mattresses are firm, and pillows are comfortable. ||Other things I appreciate: Elevators always, always come quickly. The hotel's location right on Plaza Espana, with all its metro lines, is great. Moreover, it's just minutes by cab from all the attractions of the Ramblas, etc., but just far enough off the beaten track that you're situated among shops and restaurants that seem frequented entirely by locals. Hotel Wi-Fi is fast and steady. ||Hotel breakfast is nice, too. The spread is nothing really special, but the selection is fairly large, quality is good, and everything is well-maintained. The large breakfast room is a bright, welcoming place to start one's day. The entire hotel is spic 'n span, actually. ||One more thing about the bar: The bartenders put A LOT of care into making one's cocktail. It's clear that they want to serve you a drink you'll enjoy. Sometimes that means your order won't be taken as quickly as you'd like, but the short wait is worth it. These guys are true mixologists who the the effort in to provide a great experience. And they do it every night, all night. Believe me, I know.||My one complaint about the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza is that it's difficult to regulate guest room temperature in the winter. The heat is set where it's set. If you find the room temperature a bit stuffy (I like to sleep in a chilly room), your only option is to crack a window. Not a big deal, though. The windows are easy to crack. ||I've spent a total of about 25 nights in this property and I enthusiastically...
Read morePeople be careful!!! Don’t choose this unsecured hotel!!! We got robbed right in the lobby of hotel! Someone stole my husband’s handbag. We were sitting in the corner of lobby, there was no windows, far from the entrance, so someone target us from inside, was waiting for the right moment. And the most terrible that hotel workers did nothing to help us. Was rude to us and even didn’t apologise, didn’t pay any attention to our problem. We checked reviews and there is many cases of robbery in the lobby in this hotel! When we bagged workers to check the cameras for us, they answered: - your bag is not in the hotel anymore, what it will give you to see the cameras ??? Also they say that cameras only in the main entrance, but not in the back exit. We checked back exit immediately and doors was closed. In the end they say to check garbage beans around hotel, because sometimes when someone steal bag from the hotel - they drop it nearby into garbage. So it’s common thing for this place!!! It’s unsafe and no one will even try to help you. I’m not surprised if workers are part of it!!! How does it possible in 4 star hotel??? Why there is no cameras? No security in the entrance, no help from staff, no apologies??? Don’t stay there people !!! Terrible experience 💔
P.S. Answer of hotel is not true! My husband was awake and near me! I closed my eyes for 5 min after took pill from stomach pain! What you talking about? we have proofs because we did photos of us and before we walked in placa españa and also have photos! We stayed in the lobby 45 min in total! From 16:40 till 17:25! Was waiting for our flight! Why to lie to people? Restaurant was closed and back door was locked we checked it immediately! There were no other people in the lobby except the employees of the hotel! No windows around and the only way to come to us was from main entrance where cameras can see who is passing! Don’t try to save your reputation by telling untrue stories! 4 star hotel must have a security and it’s your fault and your responsibility that it happened to so many people in your hotel! Even now instead of apologise and take some actions to secure your hotel, you blame the customer and give...
