On entering Chelo, I was greeted by a three floor climb in 100 degree heat, which I did, only to realise there was indeed a lift! My one bit of advice is to look past there stairs at what looks like a door way, it is a lift, use it!! ||On ringing the bell I was greeted by a friendly man and woman of around mid to late twenties who are the epitome of the perfect hosts, he took the lead as he spoke better English. Showed me to my room, how to access the wifi and proceeded to tell me the little quirk of the key on the front door. ||As it was a little late on he advised me of the best place to go for quick but good food, and advised me the supermarket next door would close shortly and wasn't open the day after due to a public holiday. ||The day after I needed to print something off, and without any issues at all the lady advised me to email it to the hostels account and happily printed it off, then helped me plan my way home after a late night at the football after the metro closed.||The room itself, basic, but very functional. The shower was good and powerful, however if you have difficulties with movement it may not be ideal as it is quite tight getting in and out of the small tub.||There is A/C which is powerful, a small tv with local channels. The beds are a little short but comfortable and the location is superb just off grand via. ||I honestly could not recommend Chelo more, although it is very cheap the service puts its more illustrious rivals to shame.||Thank you guys for making the...
Read moreHostal Chelo is a good budget option if you are looking for a clean, safe room steps from the Gran Via and central attractions. Maria and her team are gracious hosts and keep the rooms neat and clean. WiFi is free and fast.||||I will echo what other reviewers have said. The rooms and hallways are very compact, so there isn't much space for luggage, etc. The bathrooms are compact as well, and require some agility to get in and out of the shower/tub combination. There is an elevator, but you still need to walk up or down a half flight of steps. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay. The biggest issues I had with the Chelo are not necessarily completely within the control of the Hostal. The walls are paper-thin between rooms, so you can hear every loud conversation your neighbors are having. Also, pretty common in older, multi-story, buildings, sewer gas would occasionally create a bad smell from the bathrooms, making it pretty necessary to keep the windows open for some of the time.||||If location and budget are your top concerns, the Chelo is a good option if you are willing to accept...
Read moreWe stayed at Hostel Chelo in early September 2014, and whilst the place was clean and the staff were friendly, we had some serious concerns about management.
Firstly, items went missing from our room, and room was entered (& cleaned) despite the do not disturb sign on the door.
Secondly, and of greater significance, we returned to our room one evening to find the set of master keys left in our lock. These had clearly been left in our door throughout the day, enabling anyone access to our room and our belongings. We appreciate that this was no doubt an accident, but the fact remains that our property was put at risk by staff member's carelessness. Considering this was the master set of keys it is troubling that their absence had gone unnoticed by management.
The hotel is in a great location and as previously mentioned is a welcoming and clean environment, however we would struggle to recommend this hotel based on our...
