We visited this hotel on a B&B basis during the first week of May 2024. We paid in advance and, since it was a fairly expensive visit, we had high hopes for the quality of the hotel. Unfortunately we found it very disappointing. On the plus side, the room was quite spacious and modern in style with a good view of Madrid if you are on a high enough floor. The quality of breakfast was also good with plenty of choice. And the negative? Well, the hotel's website advertises a gym and spa but forget this if you object to paying an extra €30 per person per visit. I think most people would expect a decent internet speed in such an upscale hotel but forget this as well unless you are prepared to pay an 'upgrade fee' which increases the speed in your room so that it can handle video streaming. So as a business guest, please forget zoom calls or anything like that unless you want the upgrade fee on your bill.||Returning to the issue of the spa, after a long day exploring the city I thought to hell with it and resolved to pay the fee. I take the elevator to the spa floor, braced to pay the €30 and they look at me like I am from Mars - apparently it isn't enough to simply pay the fee, they also need proof that you are staying in the hotel. And there I am, standing there like an idiot in swimming trunks underneath a robe. Like I walked in from the street dressed like this. Room key? Forget it. They want the little card that any hotel gives you when you check in, telling you what your room number is. You won't be surprised to learn that, inexplicably, I had omitted to bring this and so in the face of such ridiculousness I just gave up and walked away. The receptionist explained that the gym is a separate business to the hotel, hence the determination to keep riff raff like hotel guests out unless they can prove their status beyond all reasonable doubt. Which makes it especially mendacious that NH group claim the spa as a hotel facility.||After such a frustrating experience I thought I would just go downstairs and have a drink. There are hotel signs indicating a 'cocktail bar' and I walked in and headed to one of the bar stools lining the bar, behind which there is the usual display of bottles. The waiter rushes over and says what are you doing? I say I am looking forward to a drink at the bar and he shakes his head. 'Oh no, this is the restaurant,' he says and tells me that the 'bar' is just the assortment of coffee tables between the reception desk and the elevators. Not exactly the "21" so once again I gave up and went to a much nicer bar a few blocks away.||A couple of other minor gripes: The day we checked in, there were a couple of face flannels provided in our bathroom. The next day they disappeared and so we asked for replacements at reception and they duly arrived, then disappeared again the next day. In fact, this process repeated itself three days on the trot until I finally got wise and asked for enough face flannels to last the rest of the trip and then hid them from the cleaning staff until we checked out. If this happens to you, forget calling housekeeping with this problem - they won't pick up. Just trek down to reception and they will fix it, at least for a day.||The other thing I feel I should add is that this hotel is very close to the Bernabeu football stadium which means that in the football season it is likely to be fairly busy with football fans who find it a convenient overnight stay. The hotel is markedly more busy during these days and much quieter when the football is out of town.||All in all, I suspect there are plenty of other hotels in this price bracket that could offer a superior experience at the same cost. Next time we go to Madrid, I'm going...
Read moreUpon entering the room you'll notice that the room is bright and airy. There is wooden floors throughout with a large circular rug. The entry area has an extra door from the main room to provide more sound barrier. Unfortunately mine would not stay closed.
My room was located on the 8th floor near the end of the hallway. I was given two twin beds but the room is very large and not cramped at all. There is a large sitting chair, a sizable desk, a mini fridge with mini bar, and safe. There was a kettle and coffee maker! Many sizes and types of cups as well as a wide assortments of teas and coffees. There is some previous water damage on my ceiling that has been repaired.
Each twin bed had three pillows and there is a decent size TV for the room. There is an outlet next to one of the beds (after multiple attempts I was unsuccessful in getting it to work). There is a blind separating the bathroom from the bedroom that would not close at least to viewing. It would lift up and down but would not close. There is a heated towel bar, iron and ironing board which is a very rare find and several hangers. There were no slippers or robe to be found. The windows could be opened - except for the side that open was partially blocked and I don't know if that was specific to my room or a feature of the hotel.
Not especially close to any subway transit but just a 10 minute walk.
I'd say my stay was pretty good except for when it came to dealing with the reception downstairs! I was told I had to call the next morning to ask for an extended late stay. On Sundays they have lazy morning till 3:00 p.m. but I just need to extend for about 30 minutes.
I called down the next morning and the lady put me on hold 3 times and was finally put on hold for 2 and 1/2 minutes. I finally hung up from her and called again and spoke to a gentleman and he was able to answer my request immediately and say an extra 30 minutes would not be a problem at all. However she called me back a few minutes later after I got my confirmation and told me I would need to come downstairs again to make the request in person to which I informed her I already spoke to someone else and he said it was fine. So reception needs a lot of work.
If I was staying in the area I would possibly book again but would depend on reception and how I...
Read moreFirst time staying at Euro building. The actual hotel itself is very much like a Hyatt / Hilton hotel. The state is relatively comfortable. The hotel room itself (I got a suite) it’s very much so like an IKEA room. Furniture looks very cheap. The AC system in the unit doesn’t get cold. A few of my friends were in different rooms as well whether it be superior rooms or your regular standard room and they had the same complaint. You can put the AC on full blast- all the way to its lowest temperature, and the room will still be hot and muggy. I recommend opening the window. Now, when it comes to the staff, I had a problem with the manager on duty. his name is CARLO PRADO. I actually went to check my hotel bill, which I highly recommend everyone to do because I had charges on my bill that I did not authorize. it was quite concerning, and I was very adamant that I wasn’t going to pay those charges. The charges also came from the gym. The gym charges if you use the locker room and sauna room. You’re only allowed to go to the actual gym machine area. Nobody told me this from the Front Desk staff or the Front Desk staff at the actual gym facility as you walk-through. It wasn’t until I got out and was told I was going to be charged €30. I went back to the actual hotel desk at euro building and CARLOS PRADO, give me some pushback. I reiterated that his staff did not tell me that if I used a locker in the gym and went into the sauna area in the locker room that I would be charged. If I’m entering a gym facility, I’m assuming that everything within that facility is for use. I’m not sure why there is extra charges so please be careful. Back to Carlos now, he seem to have some sort of discriminating undertone when I did speak to him. He did say something along the lines of stupid American, which I understood. And I did tell him I understood and he didn’t say anything. For someone who is a service industry manager, you should learn how to conduct himself as the team leader, but also have his staff inform the hotel occupant about where charges...
