VIPS — Restaurant in Madrid

It's close to the US version of iHop. But this location was severely under staffed this night. I believe they only had two servers. I waited about 10-15 mins to be seated and we were 1st in line since minute 1. Again, blame it on the severely under staff folks.

The staff, however, was exceptional. Though it took a bit to get our orders taken (under staff), she got our orders right.

Food was good. I see why this franchise is popular: good food for the price. But I also see why this place has long lines: potential understaffed. The food is a selection of pancakes, mostly sweet stuff, with some burgers and salmon sandwiches (after lunch), and other options for breakfast, which includes bacon.

We chose to this location because it was a little distanced from busy areas, which we assumed would have a long line. This one did not have any lines and we were first in line.

Would I go back? Like the iHop in the USA, only if really into the mood of eating this kind of food (which we mostly aren't into). I would skip it if there's a long line. But I see that he appeal to the place... But not worth the 1hr + wait that i have seen in some restaurants in busy areas. Maybe those folks were first timers like...

La llamada que salvó la noche. Habíamos reservado mesa para 16 (niños y adultos), con tiempo, en en VIPS de Príncipe de Vergara). La reserva en Príncipe de Vergara la hicimos online, me llegó la confirmación 5m después, a mi correo y por mensaje. Habíamos intentado llamar, sin éxito, al móvil de contacto (12 llamadas), antes de realizar la reserva. Al llegar, 16 personas, nos dicen que NO les aparece ninguna reserva (imposible pues es u programa que confirma a ambas partes y si yo tengo confirmación, ellos también). Les digo que comprueben, por favor, que tengo a 16 personas esperando, con niños incluidos en el grupo. El chico, algo perdido y agobiado, dice que va a preguntar a su jefe. El jefe confirma que "no hacemos reservas online y que tenía que haber llamado"- le digo que su móvil tiene 12 llamadas perdidas de mi móvil y mensaje por whatsapp. Me dice que el móvil lo lleva el jefe y que están muy liados. Le digo las horas a las que he ido llamando para que vean que hubo varios intentos. No tengo ninguna respuesta al móvil o en la reserva, confirmada. Al final me dicen que como hay mucha gente, no saben si nos van a poder atender y que hay gente antes que nosotros en la cola. :-0 La planta donde teníamos la reserva estaba cerrada. En la planta de arriba tenían mesas vacías. Mostramos flexibilidad, pidiendo que nos acomoden en mesas separadas, pero que por favor busquen una solución y nada. No es no. Luego nos dicen que hay otro VIPS en Padre Damián, a 15m caminando. Y es ahí cuando llamo a Padre Damián y me atiende una chica majísima. Con mucha educación me explica que están con gente pero que en una media hora puede atendernos. Al llegar ya estaba montando la mesa para nosotros. Efectivamente, había bastante gente, al igual que en el anterior. Estaban solo la chica, Susana y otro camarero, pero el servicio fue impecable. Atentos y organizados y eso que eran pocos para la gente que tenían en el local. La comida, perfecta, llegó todo muy rápido: los menús de los niños antes, las bebidas servidas rápido. Para ser una mesa de 16 personas en un restaurante lleno, quedamos impresionados con la rapidez y la buena atención. Los postres tardaron un poco más, pero para este momento, el restaurante ya estaba lleno. Es difìcil atender un restaurante VIPS lleno con solo dos personas. Me quito el sombrero ante los dos. Tried this after the place I originally wanted to visit was closed … pleasantly surprised, had the pancake with egg, bacon and a truffle béchamel sauce. The pancakes were good , so too the egg and bacon. The sauce was ok , it didn’t add much to the dish to be honest and was on the cold side.

Orange juice was also good and the cappuccino.

All in was an ok breakfast - did the job.

The stars of the meal though were the iberia croquettes I ordered separately … wow - really tasty and left me wanting more! (Only ordered the half portion)

Service was good and for a non-spanish speaking person they made an effort and had someone help me in english. The menu is also available in english via QR code.

Will probably be back to try some of the other...
