I had a good stay at Hotel Sardinero and would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The hotel is housed in a beautiful old building, with a stunning staircase and fantastic views, especially from the rooftop. The fountain outside is lovely and lights up at night, adding a nice touch to the overall ambiance. The location was unbeatable-right outside a train station and within walking distance of many attractions, making it incredibly convenient for exploring Madrid.
The room we stayed in was on the smaller side and felt a bit outdated, with a slight damp smell when we first arrived, but it was clean and airing it out by opening both balconies helped. Room service did a good job tidying up each day, and the complimentary bottles of water were much appreciated. However, I wish they had restocked the toiletries, as we ran out of toothpaste during our stay and due to our busy itinerary we didn't have time to ask for more, luckily we carried some of our own!
We did encounter a minor issue with the shower's water pressure, especially when using hot water. The staff were very attentive and helpful-one member checked it while we were out, and another staff member followed up with us when we returned. Although the problem wasn't completely resolved, I'm confident they would have taken care of it if we had more time to raise it again, as we were only there for 3 nights with a busy schedule.
A special mention to Marina, who was incredibly kind and helpful when I emailed the hotel ahead of time about my husband's birthday. She replied almost instantly and made sure the cake they left in our room was suitable for our dietary needs. The lovely cake and a thoughtful message, was a wonderful surprise for my husband and very much appreciated!
The gym is small but a nice feature, and the beds were really comfortable. I also appreciated the pillow menu, where you could choose different pillow types to suit your preference. It would have been great if the room had bathrobes, slippers, and a kettle with tea and coffee, but overall, the hotel offered a pleasant experience.

One thing to note is that our room faced the main road, so while the view was lovely, we did hear some traffic noise. But I wouldn't change that, the view was worth the noise!
Despite these small drawbacks, l'd still recommend Hotel Sardinero for its charm, helpful staff, and unbeatable location. A solid choice for anyone...

As I write, we are on our second of five nights at this four star hotel. So these comments are based mostly on that experience. Will update later if anything better or worse happens.
First the pros (glass 2/5ths full): Clean and good cleaning of room. AC works great in room and elsewhere. Small mini fridge, but they restock it with water every day so far. Excellent view from the room. Light-tight window treatments if needed. Quiet so far. Nice shower with somewhat logical controls (plumbing fixtures can be an issue in Spain). Bar is nice and not overly priced. Friendly and helpful bartender. Friendly staff overall, however... (more below). Large breakfast and decent buffet spread (but don't assume it's included--ask first!)
Now the cons (glass 3/5ths empty): Our "deluxe" room is tiny. I would hate to be squeezed into a normal room. Maybe it's deluxe because of the nice view? Laminate flooring could use a refresh. So gratis four-star slippers (as we had in our previous hotel) would be appreciated. The peeling wallpaper enrages my wife. Needs a refresh too. Access to the photo highlighted "terrace" on the fifth floor was locked on our first evening (it wasn't late at all). Will check again today, but it should have been open. Front desk, on arrival, carried our luggage to the elevator (not to the room), which was odd. Saved us a tip I guess. Front desk, on arrival, also mentioned breakfast was included, which conformed to our expectations based on our booking through hotels dot com. However, this morning we received a bill at the table and were told breakfast was not included (30 Euros for two). We asked about the discrepancy at the front desk. The guy told us his coworker had made a mistake in telling us breakfast was included. No offer to correct their own mistake (four stars?). Bottom line: Ask before eating or potentially suffer a bait and switch. More affordable first meals are readily available nearby. Not one English channel on the room televisions. No biggie, but really?
Considering the cost and alternatives, we probably would not stay here again. We have stayed in many hotels in Madrid and...
Read moreHotel Sardinero is located in the heart of Madrid, on Alonso Martínez Square making it very convenient to explore the city. I visited with my family and booked a standard double room and their Tower room on the 5th floor which is highly recommended. The Tower room has 2 patio areas with outdoor furniture and views over the city. The tower room above is small and cozy, I would have made more use of it had it been fitted with a larger TV.
The rooms have been tastefully designed, combining traditional high ceilings with modern laminate flooring and minimalist décor. The rooms was very spacious for a city centre hotel, clean, had huge wardrobes and featured a large rain-effect showers. The beds were extremely comfortable.
One of the highlights was the buffet breakfast served in the bright indoor courtyard. The variety and quality of the food was impressive, and it was a great way to start the day. The gentleman looking after the buffet was very courteous, professional and good with the kids. All the staff we encountered at the hotel were friendly, attentive, and ready to assist with any request. The only minor let-down was that our bottled water wasn't replenished on our last day and we only received coffee pods for the pod machine on the first night, these weren't replenished by housekeeping when the room was serviced either. It wasn't the end of the world though as we had coffee at breakfast so we didn't feel the need to ask.
Overall, Hotel Sardinero Madrid offers a perfect blend of comfort, style, and convenience. Whether you’re visiting Madrid for business or leisure, I highly recommend this hotel for an unforgettable stay and I will definitely stay here again when I next...
