Overall 3.5/5, rounding down.
I’ve been to more than a few of the “world’s 101 best steak” restaurants and I cannot agree that Piantao should be on that list.
The non-steak dishes we had were excellent, including the empanada, chorizo, artichokes, and smoked peppers. But the Argentine ribeye “ojo de bife” ordered “al punto” fell flat. Not all the fat was rendered properly. 80% of it was not tender and the cut was poorly trimmed after aging - it had some charred, fishy tasting bits.
Service was well-intentioned, but not polished. A 55 euro wine bottle was opened and poured without offering the cork to test nor a taste. Plates were not changed between appetizers and mains.
Proper steak knives were not offered - When the steak came out, they offered to slice it only after my wife struggled to cut a slice off herself with a standard table knife. Additionally, the sliced steak was placed on an unheated plate so it was cold within minutes.
Even though we sat down a few minutes after lunch service started, we felt rushed throughout the meal. Lastly, they tried to charge me for a beer we had not ordered.
In the past, my steak restaurant of choice in Madrid has been Rubaiyat (5/5 always over 5 visits). Their standards are the same as the Sao Paolo and Buenos Aires locations. We’ll certainly be returning there next time we...

We didn't see any plates leave the kitchen and there was a stack of meat next to the grill for the entire time. Fast forward to the recent weeks, and it's a completely different place. To start, Henry is a great waiter. Cool and collected, really knows the menu inside out and suggested a great wine pairing. The chef, is a young lady who seems super enthusiastic, focused and smart. On my first sitting, she said hello as I was obviously enjoying the food. I've been back maybe 5 times in the last two weeks. It's not because it's local. There are many other places. It's because the food is exceptional, and not only the meat but the good selection of side dishes, the service (and for Henry really) is really top quality. The vibe is top class too. On my first visit in the last weeks, Henry noticed I was looking at the wine glass, that had probably sat on the table from the afternoon. A small but noticeable amount of dust had formed. I didn't need to ask Henry. He was on it.

Read moreI just had the most amazing long lunch at Piantao Chamberi, and I'm already planning my next visit! From the moment we walked in and saw the impressive dry-aging fridge, I knew we were in for a treat.
We kicked things off with these cute little cookies that were just the right amount of sweet – a perfect start. But let's talk about the steak. It was incredible, cooked just the way I like it, with that perfect char on the outside and juicy on the inside. You can really taste the quality.
And the dessert? Oh wow, it was out of this world! The cake was this beautiful stack of sweet layers, and that caramel on the side was the cherry on top.
The vibe of the place is just so chill, and the staff made us feel super welcome. It's clear they take their food seriously, but they don't take themselves too seriously, which I love.
If you're all about that steak life and you want a place that gets it right every time, Piantao Chamberi is your spot. Trust me, your taste buds...
