I arrived in Colombo 25th morning and had already booked a hotel via booking.com. However the hotel turned out to be far worse than it looked in the pictures and having my family and mother with me i decided to move to another hotel. Now since it was Christmas, i couldn't get an available room for my family and based on my taxi driver's recommendation we stopped at the Euro Lanka hotel. A gentleman around the age of 50 Plus was at the reception and his overall attitude was very surly. First he charged us double of what it was available on booking.com for and that too without breakfast, with the premise that its Christmas and "we're full". Secondly he charged us an extra 3% for paying via credit card. You've heard of "service with a smile", well this was definitely "service with a scowl"! ||The rooms were just ok, one of them the A/c wasn't working and i had to switch rooms. An ant invasion in one of the rooms also! At night i asked for bottled water and the reception replied with our policy is only to give 2 bottles per day! Imagine my surprise... clean sheets, available towels, more than two bottles of water, an electronic kettle with free tea and coffee sachets is the bare minimum i expect, when i'm paying USD 55 (without breakfast) per room!||Overall staff and management needs to be taught basic etiquette.||Luckily i was staying only for a night. The only thing working for the hotel is its a...
Read moreTerrible experience overall at this hotel. Initially when checking in we wanted a family room a family room which was unavailable for that night. To make do we opted for two rooms however after seeing over 5 rooms which were either ant and insect infested or smelled of cigarettes, we politely asked to just take one of the rooms we thought were somewhat clean and manage till the next day where we could get a clean family room. During this night one of us was forced to sleep on the floor. After being moved to the family room we had stayed 3 additional nights. When we went to checkout and pay we were met with an additional 1500 per person bill on top of the room rate. In addition, we were charged for a family room on the first night. I’ve never ever seen a hotel try and charge additional for people especially without disclosing this at all during check in. Also what’s the point in booking family room when we’re going to get charged per person regardless. No way to fight this and we ended up paying the ridiculous bill. Overall the hotel is small, smells like rotten fish and is unclean. It’s only plus side; being cheap, was not met...
Read moreGreat Food, but Service Needs Improvement
I recently had dinner at Euro Lanka Hotel with my wife, and overall, we had a pleasant experience. The Pittu Koththu was incredibly superb, and the food was amazing. The service was generally nice, and we appreciated the effort put in by the staff.
However, I encountered an issue that affected our dining experience. I requested one of the staff members to reduce the volume of the music, but unfortunately, my request was not addressed. Additionally, there were a group of four ladies at another table who were quite disruptive in their behavior, which added to our discomfort.
I believe that Euro Lanka has great potential, but I would strongly recommend that they consider hiring more professional staff who can ensure a comfortable atmosphere for all diners. Attention to both service and ambiance is crucial for a top-notch dining experience.
I look forward to returning and am hopeful for improvements in these...
