(Edit: I no longer recommend this place for the reason mentioned below.)

Dwaraka is an Indian vegetarian restaurant located right at the end of Jaya Road, Bambalapitiya with access from both that road and the Marine Drive. It serves both North and South Indian cuisine.

I have eaten their North Indian thali (word means "plate") many times (available at lunch time), their highest priced single item (a little over Rs. 1,000 the last time I ate). The carbs consist of a bowl of long-grained rice mixed with vegetables and green peas and a freshly-made naan. This is accompanied by a tomato soup, which I love, and a selection of five different dishes served in small bowls, which are always invariable: paneer (my favourite), alu (potatoes), chick peas curry, raita (curd) and dhal. This invariability, which I like--because every time I go there I know what I am going to get- may not appeal to some others. A desert is included, which is not fixed. The quality of taste of the thali is good except the dessert, which is usually mediocre. Their South Indian thali, which is a little cheaper, is okay but don't order their chilli parotta--it is too hard and rubbery.

The restaurant is well maintained and clean. Reasonably clean wash room. The menu is varied enough and not too expensive. They claim to have all Indian chefs.

Dwaraka also has another branch in Mount Lavinia and there the prices of the menu items are a little cheaper while the quality of food is the same (at least judging from their North Indian thali).

Edit: I have now learned that the tomato soup given with their north indian thali is made using bottled tomato sauce, not natural tomatoes. This is a big disappointment and I...

A voice-activated real-time digital order display system for Dwaraka Restaurant ensures that orders are instantly displayed in the kitchen as customers speak. Whether the order is placed inside the restaurant, at a drive-thru, via a self-service kiosk, or over the phone, AI-powered speech recognition immediately converts spoken words into text. Using Natural Language Processing (NLP), the system accurately identifies menu items, modifications, and preferences and instantly transmits the order to the kitchen.

The Kitchen Display System (KDS) updates in real time as the customer continues speaking, ensuring that kitchen staff see the order immediately. Once food preparation begins, staff can update the order status as "In Progress," "Preparing," "Ready," or "Served", allowing seamless tracking.

With AI speech-to-text models like Google Speech API, Whisper AI, and Amazon Transcribe, the system ensures error-free transcription, intelligent menu recognition, and automatic corrections. It integrates with POS systems, real-time WebSocket-based processing, and cloud/local Kitchen Display Systems (KDS) for fast synchronization.

This hands-free approach reduces manual data entry, minimizes order errors, and speeds up service time. It is ideal for drive-thrus, self-service kiosks, fine dining restaurants, and AI-powered phone orders.

By eliminating order delays and ensuring real-time kitchen synchronization, this advanced technology will significantly enhance the service quality at...

Dwaraka Indian Restaurant is a gem for those who appreciate authentic vegetarian Indian cuisine served in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The exterior, exudes an inviting glow with its well-lit ambiance and glass doors that beckon guests inside. The restaurant’s interior is spacious and adorned with tasteful decor that complements the culinary journey awaiting diners.

The seating arrangement is comfortable and well-spaced, ensuring guests can enjoy their meals in privacy while soaking in the vibrant yet cozy environment. Dwarka has an on-premise parking space that accommodates about 12 vehicles, adding convenience to the overall dining experience.

The menu at Dwaraka is a delightful exploration of flavors. The Ulundu Wade stands out for its crispiness - each bite offering a satisfying crunch that reveals flavorful interiors. The Spicy Dosai is another must-try; it tantalizes the palate with its blend of spices perfectly balanced to enhance rather than overpower.

Paper Rost, Cheese Nan, and Mushroom Fried Rice are other notable mentions – each dish prepared with meticulous care, showcasing a harmony of flavors indicative of India’s rich culinary heritage. Every meal at Dwaraka promises not just satiation but an experience; a journey through India’s diverse regions brought to life by skilled chefs committed to authenticity.

In conclusion, Dwaraka isn’t just about food – it’s about experiencing Indian culture through its rich flavors, warm service, and...

I visited Dwaraka Restaurant today and had a generally good experience with the main course. The food was well-prepared, flavorful, and definitely worth trying. However, I was quite disappointed with the desserts, specifically the Jigarthanda and Milk Paayasam. The Jigarthanda was nothing like what I expected. It lacked the rich, creamy texture that makes this drink special. Instead, it tasted overly diluted, and the syrup used was excessively sweet, masking any natural flavor. It just didn’t have that authentic, refreshing taste you'd hope for. Similarly, the Milk Paayasam was a letdown. It was thin and runny, lacking the creamy consistency and comforting warmth that a good paayasam should have. Which made it less enjoyable. The usual aromatic hints of cardamom and saffron were completely missing. While the food was definitely worth the visit, I would recommend skipping the desserts if you’re looking for an authentic South Indian sweet experience.
