Read moreSmall, innovative and delicate dishes, served artistically in a compact & chic dining area... Clients can choose between minimum 4 up to 8 course menus. The wine accompaniment can be ordered separately. The restaurant aims to be (the) one of the top-notch restaurants of the city, as evident from the prices, which vary between 180-300 CHF pp depending on the chosen number of dishes and the wine pairing. The delicacy and the attention at the presentation of the dishes are not questionable. There is a strong attempt to make use of regional and bio-certified products. However some things are lacking for a restaurant that aims to be a top-class. The ambiance is calm, nice and welcoming but it does not really fit to a top restaurant, neither aesthetically nor practically, i.e. it's simply to loud although there are not so many tables. The service is attentive and professional however the conveyed information about the dishes are almost imperceptible due to the background noise. Waiters did not seem to care much if the customers understood them correctly = -1 The current dishes could be found online but what will be choosen by the kitchen on a given number of dishes was a suprise until the last moment. If I can't know what I finally get to my plate how can I order a proper wine. As we did not go for wine pairing option and taking a single bottle for 6 different dishes seemed not to be good move we went for wine per glass option. That was the worst mistake. Only 3 types of reds and whites were available. This is not acceptable. At least all the accompaniment wines could be serve...
Visited Eqitable several times over the years and had mainly positive experiences in the past. However our last visit was a massive let down. Quality of food has slipped a lot, and the service was no where close to a star. We waited 40min between our first two courses while the table next to us which were friends of the chef, got all the attention and all food was prioritised for them. When I asked about the tempo i was told by the waiter she’s not the one managing the kitchen. I also asked if there was an alternative fish dish to the main and I was told yes…what I got was the same dish but with a piece of fish instead of meat….it obviously didn t work at all as the dish was designed for red meat. So I ended up with a marinated cold fish piece with a heavy side of grilled peppers and onions with a jue…who does that? Certainly not a chef who respects his art. Desert was sorbet on a bed of compote and crumbled biscuit…. What is funny is at the end the chef comes and asked if you enjoyed everything. Obviously there was no feedback exchange between the waitress I raised our complaint of not getting food for ages with the chef, as there was no mentioning or apology and clearly no point in sharing any feedback. We left deflated and sad for the money we left behind. I guess that was...
Read moreI have only been to two other restaurants of this caliber before, so my experience is not extensive as some others, as a full disclaimer.
Overall me and my fiancee had an incredibly experience, our waiter (gentlemen from Spain) was an incredible host. His knowledge and expertise of the dishes while keeping everything light and fun was what I had imagined an experience at EquiTable to be like. Chef Julian and his team's regional selection of ingredients, presentational skills, and palate selection was incredibly well balanced and fun. I had particularly enjoyed the surprises and little touches that made the experience stand out (that I wont spoil for those who have not yet been) above many of the other, perhaps more "serious" fine dining establishments. Their focus on sustainability, light heartedness, sophisticated menu developed, and understanding of gastronomy make this a great selection for anyone visiting Zurich or living locally.
And of course the seal of approval - my fiancee stating it was one, if not, THE best dining experience...
