Having previously come to Indigo Kaohsiung for a few meals in the restaurant we always wanted to come back and stay a night. Finally this was our chance as we couldn’t travel internationally this summer.
We booked through hotels.com, which was a little more expensive than directly through IHG, but we needed to collect another reward point before our previous points expired. As we were planning on staying a few days after making the booking, we chose to book a non refundable rate for a change.
Arriving at the hotel we were warmly greeted by a staff member who took our temperature and sprayed our hands with sanitizer. The check in desk is only a few steps away from the front doors and again one of the fantastic staff welcomed us and quickly checked us in. As we were staying for a special event they said they would provide us with a small cake which could be delivered to our room whenever we wanted. Also, as a low level IHG member we received a free 500ml bottle of San Pellegrino. Another great touch by Indigo.
The room type we had was a Premier Room on the 13th floor which had a king bed, a small sitting area and a huge bathroom. Having seen pictures online before staying here, we were pleasantly surprised that the room looked even better in person. There is ample storage for all your things, both in the main sleeping area and the bathroom. The bathroom was like a dream. There was a separate toilet, a large sink area with lots of bench space, and a rainfall shower. However, the real highlight was the beautiful bathtub right in front of the floor to ceiling windows with an incredible view over the city. The room was comfortable and the view was spectacular. We spent a lot of time enjoying our room. The one negative, if you can call it that, is the massive tv is very close to the end of the bed so my eyes got a bit sore after watching it only for a few minutes.
On the third floor of the hotel is a small gym with 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical trainer, 1 bike, an adjustable weight bench and a reasonable set of dumbbells, a yoga mat and ball. Although the space was not large, with only two of us in there it was fine. Free bottles of water and apples could also be found in there.
Another benefit of being an IHG member is that we were given welcome drink vouchers. These could be used at the lobby bar and coffee show or the rooftop bar, which is what we chose. The bar was open from 6pm and when we arrived around 8pm it was already busy. Many of the customers were locals who came for a drink and the view. As a hotel guest we got priority seating and didn’t have a minimum amount we needed to spend. The view from this area is nice and faced towards downtown Kaohsiung so you get a picture of the skyline. Even though visiting at the end of June there was a cool breeze. The atmosphere was relaxed with chill music and a giant projector screen. The staff were friendly and efficient, and even though they were rushing around helping everyone we didn’t have to wait a long time to get what we ordered.
Our reservation included buffet breakfast. The restaurant was really quiet for a Monday morning with only a few other guests dropping in to get something quick to eat. The staff were very attentive, cleaning plates quickly when we finished and offering more coffee. The buffet included a wide selection of food, local and international dishes. A nice touch was that each table had a pack on pencils and the placemats were a coloring piece of paper. A nice touch to keep any kids, or older ‘kids’ busy and not get bored.
We enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again...
Read moreWe stayed in Kaohsiung days after Typhoon Gaemi caused widespread flooding in the city and surrounds. We were concerned for the people of the city, and that those working there would be affected by the flooding, but ultimately decided to continue our stay in order to support the people who work and live in the city. We were extremely glad to have done so.
The hotel exterior is beautiful and the quality of design continues into the hotel itself. There is a connection to the nature of Kaohsiung being a port city; and I feel this is properly communicated in the design of the interior as well.
Our introductory experience with the hotel front desk was similarly excellent with the desk attendant with family name Hsieh making us feel welcome. His greeting us by name every time we met made us feel quite welcome; he also made sure to take the initiative every time we had service questions for the hotel. It made the stay feel personalized and it was greatly appreciated.
Our room was on the fifth floor facing the park metro station, and was beautifully appointed. From the entry to the views of the city and park, everything felt purposeful. The room controls and media connections from the desk were an extra step taken during the design that highlight the quality of the hotel.
We had breakfast every morning. It was pricier than finding food outside, but the convenience and quality of service more than made up for the difference. We had a few extremely positive interactions with the staff, who were attentive and caring. The food itself was also good, and there were many options for someone who did not eat pork or red meat. I wish there were a few more options for the noodle bar that were vegetarian friendly, but I understand the restrictions for a mostly buffet breakfast offering.
We also ordered room service; the portions were large and we believe they offered appropriate value for the price paid. We wish there was a way of knowing the contents of each dish beforehand, however, as I did eat something with pork that was not described as having it.
The Laundry Service was quick and professional, and we were greatly appreciative of the speed with which it was completed. We feel the cost of the service was in keeping with a high-quality hotel.
The room had a small guide booklet in the desk that recommended food and activities in the city and I feel that these did a wonderful job to showcase the beauty of Kaohsiung's metro area.
Overall we had a wonderful stay here and will be calling again when we stay next...
Read moreWonderful hotel to stay at. Great location if you need access to the underground train and easy pick up and drop off location for Uber.
We were in room #1212 (Premier 1 King, Park View). It was very spacious. When you walk in, there is a sofa area with a dining room table and a patio off to the side with a TV. Great separate entertainment area if you're expecting friends or family to stop by and hang out at your hotel. 1.5 bathroom. main bathroom has double vanity and a soaking tub that overlooked the park. The bedroom part has plenty of space with TV and views of the park. The only thing is the bedroom side gets pretty warm during the afternoon if u leave the curtains fully opened. The room does have AC. Our trip was during Nov, and the AC was strong enough to keep cool during our stay.
The front desk was very friendly, they spoke English and had a lot of patience. The housekeeping service was super kind, sweet, and fast at responding to our needs.
Our room came with breakfast buffet and dinner. The breakfast buffet was until 10 am ( I don't remember what time it started). If your stay includes dinner, you just have to let them know by 9am. of the same day. The food can be eaten in the café area or taken to go back to your room at the time you tell them.
Close to a lot of shopping. 20 min Uber from Kaohsiung HSR. It's sort of in the center of Kaohsiung, so it's a great location if you want to get anywhere with a 10min-20min Uber ride. There is an underground subway entrance half a block away. Lots of shopping close by. We didn't have a dog, but this hotel is pet-friendly.
The only complaint that we had was really minor. The mini fridge wasn't very cold. We checked the setting and tried leaving the cubby door open, which only made the drinks a little bit cooler but not enough. We plan on mentioning this during check-out. Didn't feel the need to mention it during our stay.
We really enjoyed our stay! Great choice for the room we had.
Update: They said their mini fridge was an eco-friendly edition so, its not made to keep things cold, cold. I should've been more specific that it didn't even keep my drinks cold but they did mention if the guests needed anything kept cold/frozen, we can ask guest services to...
