Hotel South Sea — Hotel in Kaohsiung

I have stayed here multiple times. For the cheap room on Booking, the price is right (at least off peak season). Sure, interior is not pristine, but experience in general is convenient if you need a place with no frills. To me, a kettle or a fridge is “frills” (who trusts a hotel kettle anyway, and you have convenience stores nearby). Unlike some hotels in this price range, here you do not need scramble for cash and can pay with MasterCard, reception staff is there when you need them, and they are nice people. As in many hotels, some rooms are better than others (e.g., layout or Wi-Fi), but generally it holds up. I decided to leave a review since they remembered me when I stayed again many months later and it felt good.

It is just an ok hotel, dated but practical, especially in terms of price and location. Liuhe Night Market is just within walking distance.

As it's near City Council Metro (just a 5 mins slow walk), one can get anywhere in Kaohsiung.

Located on every floor, there is a hot/cold water dispenser. This is where we had our steady supply of hot water. Hence, the pictures shared here are 2 recommendations of instant noodle pack (bought near the hotel) that taste really good. Special mention, especially the packet of noodles that comes with chicken wine flavour! Remove the packing and serve on a bowl, one (less picky foodie) will not know its instant noodle!

The AC worked well but other than that, not a lot of good stuff to say. Hotel surrounding is boring, the only good thing around is Kaohsiung Boulevard MTR which is 8 minutes away by foot. Check in time is 4pm and early check in coats extra (?) The stuff is ok, they tried to help every time we needed but they’re not speaking English. House keeping is not provided every day, only if you ask within its hours. The room feels old and poorly decorated, windows are tiny so the room is pretty dark, hallways and rooms smells like mold.
