hotel was 5-10mins walk to exit 4 of city council mrt (with escalator), 1 station from formosa blvd. liuhe night market is a few blocks away, also with a PX MART (for food and snacks shopping haul) around 5 mins walk. sanfong temple is 10-15mins walk. hotel entrance is right beside toms' world gaming center which has elevator to the 3rd floor reception. stayed for dec 7-9 and was given a twin room with no window. room was rm323 at the same floor as reception and restaurant.
pros: room is of good size, with ensuite toilet and shower. with kettle and coffee/tea sachets provided, with small ref for cold drinks. two bottled water daily. no cabinets but with hangers where you can hang your clothes/jackets. aircon is cold and can be controlled by guests (not centralized). shower has good water pressure. breakfast is 7-10am and included in room price. swimming pool is available from 7am to 10pm (not a lot of hotels at this pricepoint has a pool).hairdryer available in room.
cons: smoke smell from the hotel entrance and some people loitering next door (gaming center). sometimes there is also smell of smoke inside the room (might be coming from the vents). dim lighting from the entrance, elevator, rooms, reception area, atrium as well as the hallways in the 3rd and 5th floor which can be creepy when you're on your own. only the 6th floor (where the other rooms and the swimming pool) have bright lighting - i hope they change the lighting when able. the hotel would look so much better with better lighting. No bidet for the toilet. the shower holder in room 323 does not stay still so had to hold the shower head while bathing. if i don't then water will splash everywhere. the water faucet releases hot water even when you turn it to cold option, its kind of hard to wash hands and brush teeth with hot water. also there are stains in the carpet though they do provide hotel slippers so not a big deal. there's no place for luggage so had to place my luggage on the only chair in the room for easier fixing of my things. for breakfast, viands tend to be repeated (there's rice, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuggets, fries, breads, milk, soya milk, yakult, coffee and juices. it could've been ok if they taste great but some of the cooked food tend to be bland. the swimming pool shower is broken and the pool itself has missing tiles so u need to be careful as u may hurt yourself accidentally. pool is only around 4 feet deep, just enough for chilling and relaxing. its not heated though so may not be a good idea during the cold season.
do note that i stayed in a different kaohsiung hotel before this so i may be a bit bias in my review. i tend to compare "the tree house" to my previous hotel (which was maintained to a high standard). if i only stayed in "the tree house" the whole trip, my review of this hotel might've been better/higher. as it is, it is still a good hotel with a pool onsite. still a good value when you get it around php1800 per...
Read moreLocation Breakfast was of poor quality and not much choice - 'hot' food was cold even immediately after it had just been taken out. Food was not replenished quickly enough at breakfast and dishes were not cleared away very quickly even though guests were waiting to sit down and eat. There needs to be more space for guests to eat breakfast. I had my breakfast cleared away before I had even started eating it, let alone before I had finished it! When I complained, I barely received any kind of apology. In general, staff were not particularly attentive or friendly, which is very unusual for Taiwan, where people are usually unfailingly polite and helpful. It took ages for water to get hot in my shower. I even had to call reception to ask about it as it took so long, I thought that the water supply wasn't working properly. Customer service after leaving hotel was terrible. I inquired about lost item in my room and received no reply until second email three weeks later. My friend who phoned up on my behalf also had no response despite them promising to get back to...
Read moreFirst of all; big thanks to the young female receptionist who tried to help you us and cleaned the room!
The issue:
Our room was half-cleaned upon arrival after a day in the city and the door was left open after cleaning for the whole day - a bit scary tho. The new cleaning lady misunderstood the green card (so did the staff not know the meaning of it), thinking it meant 'don’t make the bed' instead of 'change the bedsheets.'
A senior staff member rudely blamed us, saying we shouldn’t have asked the receptionist to clean our room. I agree that's not her job, but staff should be properly trained, and guests shouldn’t be blamed for staff mistakes.
The rooms are outdated and have an unpleasant odor. The air conditioning doesn't cool below 24.5°C, and we discovered bedbugs. Additionally, the...
