A thematic experience to be expected at any Indian restaurant. I ordered the lamb lunch special and was disappointed by the depth of the dish. It tasted fine. A good blend of tomatoes and cream to balance itself safely. I recommend this dish if you don’t have any strong opinions about curry, sadly I do. It was lacking the spices I was seeking, which was only salvaged because the garlic butter naan made up for it.
I asked for super spicy and was glad since I fear it wouldn’t have had any flavor otherwise. At first the waitress wasn’t very helpful by just describing the dish as ‘red curry’ and ‘masala’, but after hearing of my problems, she recommended the Kadhai. I just wish she had made that recommendation earlier when I told her I like flavorful Indian food. The lamb(mutton) itself was okay. Not gamey, but not even close to delicious.
The lunch special came with a meaning less salad using a ranch based dressing (eww) and a choice of drink, hot milk tea. The tea was great except it was overtly sweet, yet at the bottom, it had a whole teaspoon of undissolved sugar.
This place tasted like any other Indian restaurant in Taiwan, suitable for...
Read moreIndian restaurant located in Taipei main. It was fairly quiet but we did come on a weekday.
Something I immediately noticed was that the food was a little uh.. pricey? These prices were what we'd pay in Sydney Australia (even more actually) and Taiwanese salaries are not quite up there with Australian salaries. I'm not sure how often the locals would afford this but perhaps they do splurge on indian food every now and then. Considering the two other tables present that night were tourists as well, it seems perhaps the strategy is to only target foreigners.
That's not to say the food wasn't good. It was good food. The chicken curry was tasty but my partner thought it needed a little more salt. The naan was good too, but the fish was a little average. The waitress spoke enough english thankfully to get us by.
If you're a loaded tourist then this a good recommend. If you're a local, you'll likely get better value for...
Read morefirst time here! to preface, there is a 10% service charge, but it's worth!
the mutton kadhai (medium spiciness) with basmati zeera rice and iced Indian milk tea (lunch meal combo!) was so delicious and flavorful, even if the place was bustling at lunch hours, it's completely worth a try if you're curious and have never tried authentic Indian cuisine.
the interior decor was lovely too, very colorful and feels very cozy.
definitely visiting again in the future!
(P.S.: accessibility might be an issue because it requires at least a couple stair steps before getting to an elevator to get to the...
