My recent stay at Lub D in Koh Samui was an exciting and vibrant experience. This modern hostel exceeded my expectations in several ways, offering a private room, lively entertainment, and a staff that went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable.
One of the standout features of Lub D was the private room I stayed in. It provided a peaceful retreat after a day of exploring the beautiful island of Koh Samui. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, offering a relaxing space amidst the lively atmosphere of the hostel. The privacy was a welcome change from the usual hostel experience and allowed me to recharge.
However, it's important to note that Lub D in Koh Samui is a very social and party-oriented hostel, which can result in a loud environment. While some travelers may relish the energy and excitement, those seeking a quieter stay should be aware of this aspect. The hostel's vibrant atmosphere and social scene make it an excellent choice for those looking to meet fellow travelers and enjoy the nightlife.
One notable advantage of staying at Lub D is their convenient ticketing service for the Full Moon Party. I found that purchasing Full Moon Party tickets through Lub D was a much better option than booking boats privately with 12go. Lub D's service streamlined the process, eliminating the hassle of coordinating transportation independently. This made it easier for me to fully enjoy this iconic event without any logistical worries.
Lub D in Koh Samui may be slightly more expensive compared to hostels in the north of Thailand, but it does offer convenience, especially with its acceptance of contactless payments at the bar. This feature made it incredibly easy to enjoy the hostel's social scene without the hassle of carrying cash.
The staff at Lub D were friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist with any questions or requests. Their genuine hospitality added a personal touch to the overall experience and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived.
In conclusion, Lub D in Koh Samui is a vibrant and social hostel that provides a lively atmosphere for travelers seeking an energetic and social environment, particularly if you're planning to attend the Full Moon Party. Whether you're traveling solo or with friends and looking to immerse yourself in the local nightlife, this hostel is an excellent choice. Read moreLub D is an interestingly named hotel located towards the northern end of Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui. Rooms are clean, light, and bright. You get a bunch of free waters on the daily, the shower is reliably hot, wifi is decent, and the bed is comfortable. Breakfast is a set meal choice which is simple but tasty. The hotel is right on Chaweng beach which on a good day is incredible; crystal clear water, white soft sand, perfect for swimming and lazing under a palm tree all day. It’s also right next to the main Chaweng Beach street filled with restaurants, bars, market stores, and many other items/services you’d imagine you’d be able to procure. A bit hectic and touristy but a fun place to explore when it comes alive in the evening. Lub D sits recangularly wedged between the main street and the beach and ticks all your expected Thailand hotel boxes (expect their overpriced pier/airport transfers - hire a taxi instead).
If you’ve got kids in tow though, this may not be the hotel for you. I’m not putting Lub D down at all, it’s just more targeted to the younger set than us “pushing 40 with kids crowd.” Cue the get off my lawn old-timer segment of this review The pool area is adjacent to the well-attended bar, so it’s not really the splash, play, and shout type pool for kids. The hotel bar music hammers away from lunch time late into the night. Every evening Lub D runs a different social event such as beer pong, bar hopping, and drinking competitions. In the early hours of the morning, the concrete hallways outside the family rooms echo loudly with the slurred, nonsensical exchanges of 20-something Australian, Irish, and English revellers as they return from their various night time activities. The great thing about all this though is you get the run of the place before noon the next day - an eerie quiet descends over the hotel in the am as hangovers and dodgy decisions are slept away behind do not disturb signs. The fact breakfast is able to be served anytime before 6pm shows the management knows their clientele are late risers.
Listen. I would have loved this place when I was 22 and I recommend Lub D if that’s your kick. If you’re getting up there in years + have a couple kids with you though, I reckon checking out more family-friendly alternatives in the area is a...
Read moreThe hotel and location is nice. The rooms are much smaller than what they look on the website and the bathroom door does not close, so don't share a room with someone unless you're close enough to do your business in front of them. What really pissed us off though was the racist attitude of the staff, which we experienced and witnessed in the lobby time and again. They fall over themselves trying to serve the white tourists (mostly drunk college kids and frat boys) and are extremely rude, unhelpful and condescending to people of colour (black/brown).
We experienced this racism ourselves, and saw them behave so rudely to other non white folk as well. When we were trying to check in, they made us sit and wait while they checked in all the white tourists who entered after us. When we politely asked why, they just kept talking down to us like we were children and not adults, telling us "sit" like you would tell a dog. When we requested a late check out, they told us yes over the phone. When we went down to confirm it on our way to breakfast in the morning, the guy at the desk acted like he didn't know what a late check out is, kept repeating "check out at 12" and playing dumb. He spoke to us in broken English and pretended to not understand what we were saying, and we later heard him talking to other people fluently in English. When we ordered a taxi for the airport at 4pm (overpriced - 400 bhat for 10 minute drive, the driver didn't even help us with the bags and still expected a tip!) the driver showed up early at 3:45 pm. They started shouting at us for not being ready to leave early and keeping the driver waiting! It was actually funny how stupidly they behaved with us. We continuously experienced microaggressions from them, and watched them talk down to other POC.
Just sit in the lobby for 10 minutes and you can see this racist behaviour for yourself. Disgusting behavior, and the first time I ever experienced any form of racism in Thailand. They are giving their...
