Onion 2 Restaurant — Restaurant in Ko Samui

On our four week food safari of Samui. We came here based on ratings, feeling like some bbq fish.

It's right on the main road so there's plenty of people watching to be done.

We ordered the honey pork ribs, som tum, a tempura prawn starter and of course the pla pau (salted charcoal BBQ fish).

However, we spoke to the cook, and he made the pla pau from red snapper rather than the usual tilapia, as we find it a little more juicy and better texture. If you have never had fish this way, try it. It's spectacular. This one was easily 10/10.

The pork ribs were a tiny bit underdone and a bit too sweet for our liking, but still very good. A bit more meat on the bones would have been good too.

The some tum was excellent - they add Thai eggplant which was a lovely additional texture. Balance was very good. We love soaking up the juices with sticky rice.

BTW they do a mean margarita too.

The staff were helpful, and the manager came over to have a chat and was keen for feedback.

We will come back here for sure. Easily the best meal we've had on this trip.

Came back a great later and was cared for by Zindi. She was very cute and very efficient. Her English is very good.

This time we had shark and also the barracuda, both fish which are getting more difficult to get in Australia at times.

They were both very generous serves indeed. We also had a calamari appetizer and a Greek salad.

All in all, another very good meal with good value for money. Onion 2 has a huge menu so there is very likely something...

I had the pleasure of dining at Onion 2 Restaurant recently for dinner with my partner and I must say, the experience was elevated by the exceptional service provided by Mr. Myat Thu.

From the moment we were seated, Mr. Myat Thu went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was nothing short of perfect.

Their attentiveness to detail was truly remarkable. Mr. Myat Thu was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. Their friendly demeanor and genuine enthusiasm for their work created a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel valued and appreciated as customers.

What stood out the most was Mr. Myat Thus ability to personalize the experience. They took the time to engage with us, offering recommendations tailored to our preferences and dietary restrictions. It was evident that Mr Myat took pride in their role and genuinely cared about providing the best service.

Their professionalism and dedication to customer satisfaction are commendable, and it's clear that Mr. Myat Thu is an asset to Onion 2 Restaurant. Their exceptional performance deserves recognition, and I have no doubt that they will continue to excel in their job. I highly recommend Mr. Myat Thu to anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience.

Onion 2 was so fabulous I’m not sure where to begin!? The huge menu offers something to EVERYONE! Prices are superb! Staff were super helpful when it came to the set meat and seafood platters, i was able to substitute meat I did not like for alternative ones without this affecting the amazing price!

Saving the best till last - the STAFF! I was met with genuine smiles and stupendous service from all staff, 2 in particular need a shoutout!

Firstly, without Chu I would not have dined here 6 days in a row! Her friendly vibe at the front of the restaurant encouraged us to enter, she remembered me and often joked about when I would eventually bring my partner! This made onion 2 stand out from hundreds of restaurants in Koh Samui which led to my repeat dine ins!

Secondly, I think I’ve found the most friendly and attentive waiter on the planet! DRUM ROLL Mr Myat Thu!! There is no mountain he wont climb nor sea he will not swim to the depths to ensure you receive 10/10 customer service! His attentiveness to detail was superb, if I ever had an issue, i’d look up and he would be ready to assist.
