What an extraordinary place. Perfect location on the edge of the Medina. Beautifully restored, peaceful, comfortable...words cannot do it justice. I stayed 10 days in October 2025 and did not want to leave. The experience is as far as possible from what you'd find in a cookie-cutter big corporate hotel, People who look for things to complain about might find one or two quirks, for example my bathroom shower was a bit tight, and since it is a very old building, none of the architectural lines are straight...and this is what I love about it! The antique tiles, the curated museum quality artworks and collectibles, the special juices in the morning, the smiles of every staff person, the sense of history and community...lovely! It's perfect for people who love slow travel, to drink in a place, to experience a journey rather than a simple vacation. I loved the nooks and crannies to hang out and read or listen to the call to prayer. My room was a haven, spacious and comfortable with a sitting area, a study area and a raised bed in a glamorous nook. Thank you, Dali, Rim and...

In April I was in this hotel with a friend, whose name is Chiara.|This latter paid, by a mistake of the staff, the due amount twice.|Since April Chiara has send unsuccessfully several emails and messages; she has also contaqcted them by phone, receving from the staff a promise of taking care of the case.|It was agreed that the amount would be transferred to my friend's bank account in Italy.|Unfortunatelly, this has never happended and the hotel staff every time has found many silly excuses.|They even requested, surprisingly, a letter from my friend's bank a statement of acceptance of this amount. Chiara sent them a letter of the Italian bank confirming tha the account is genuine and tha twas more than enough.|Probably they hope that mwe will give up and they can keep Chiara's money!|As everybody can understand, this is truly a dishonest and unacceptable behaviour; just for few hundreds euro we now have to involve a lawyer in order to get the money back!|We want everybody to know this story and avoid booking this hotel for their...

Everyone raves, but I found it to be just ok. I stayed in the king suite on the main courtyard (only room available) and it was quite pricey, but large. The Dar itself is pretty and authentic and the room is too. But it feels old and looks worn. I get that it is actually old, but other dars I stayed in were maintained better. The bathroom was soooo tiny (even by European standards). I am an average sized woman and could barely move in the shower. |Water in shower had good pressure and was warm (mot super hot). They provide only soap and shampoo (no lotion) and there is a hair dryer. Towels were soft. |Bed was ok (pillows not great). |Wifi in room was awful. You have to use in the courtyard and it works well enough for WhatsApp video calls. |Courtyard rooms are a bit noisy and curtains don’t fully block light. |Breakfast was fruit, juice, breads, an egg, and coffee/tea. ||Staff was super helpful!! ||Overall, I’m not sure I would return for the price. There are other dars that have a bit more...

It’s really a gorgeous place. The rooms vary in size from what I’ve seen but they’re all unique, clean, well furnished and comfortable. The one facing inside is definitely very quiet too except of course the soft chit chat from early risers who take their breakfast in the court. The staff is super friendly, helpful and competent. Plus it’s a great spot to roam in the Medina, and the rest of the city is easily reached when you walk a few minutes to grab a cab. Not for those who climb steep chairs with difficulty or who expect car pickup at the door. Warmly recommend if you want something authentic. Enjoy

Dar Ben Gacem is the best curated and cared for independent guest house in the Tunis Medina. It is a living museum with centuries of history and modern en suite amenities in each room. Bespoke and guided opportunities like cooking classes were even possible. This was a perfect space for a work-cation and spiritual realignment with my family staying in multiple rooms. I would return in a heartbeat and have every intention of doing so. The staff are beyond courteous and thoughtful!
