Union Hotel — Hotel in Beyoğlu

I did book the Junior Suite with a huge balcony. The room was nice and a fair price. Staff at reception were very kind and helpful. I really was happy to book this hotel.

So why only 4 stars? Well... one day I saw a very young guy sitting between 2 big garbage cans.

He had opened a garbage bag and was eating scraps of food from the garbage. He sat there like a starved wild animal. And that in the middle of Istanbul, where cat food is lying around every 2 meters because they love cats so much. I think it's great. But at the same time, I had to see this poor young person who was eating the garbage like a wild animal. I've seen a lot of poor people and beggars too, but that shocked me. I went to him and gave him money so he could buy something decent to eat. I will never forget his grateful angelic smile. That really got to me.

Back at the hotel, I told the receptionist and she just said, "Oh, that must be a Syrian!" I replied that I didn't care where he was from and asked that I at least let him take a shower in my room and that I would give him some of my clothes.

I took full responsibility and would have paid an extra charge. After consultation with the manager, however, this was rejected for fear that this young person could then constantly bother their guests. I didn't feel bothered since I approached him myself. So I was denied that I could do something good for a young person, probably after a long time. Although I was willing to pay for it.

I was in tears and felt so shabby in the junior suite. Even if it was just an average hotel.

I am very disappointed with the manager's refusal, it would not have harmed anyone...on the contrary..this rating would have been a lot better.

I will certainly fly to Istanbul again, but unfortunately I will not book this hotel again. Although actually everything was great. I cannot understand the manager's decision, especially since I work in a managerial position in a hotel and would not have prevented such an incident. It's a pity that humanity no longer counts, only image and indifference/egoism. I don't wish on anyone who has to pounce on a garbage bag like a wild animal. Nevertheless, I give a fair 4 stars because the service and the hotel were otherwise great. But as I said, unfortunately they won't see me...

The seamless service and genuine care we received from everyone contributed significantly to the relaxed and enjoyable nature of our trip. The Union Hotel Port boasts an incredibly central location. Situated perfectly for accessing many of the city's key attractions, we found it exceptionally convenient to have the ferry terminal right on our doorstep. Additionally, the proximity to tram and bus stops just outside the hotel provided effortless connectivity to other districts and landmarks, allowing us to navigate Istanbul with ease and efficiency. This prime location saved us valuable time and energy, allowing us to maximize our sightseeing and immerse ourselves fully in the rich culture and history of Istanbul. The ease of access to public transportation was a major highlight and a significant factor in our positive experience. The Union Hotel Port is more than just a hotel providing accommodation; it's a place where hospitality is genuinely practiced and where guests are made to feel like family. The thoughtful and attentive service we received from Sam and the entire staff, combined with the hotel's exceptional central location and comfortable amenities, created a truly memorable and enjoyable stay. We would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Istanbul and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to return in the future. I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Union Hotel Port in Istanbul, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience, largely thanks to the amazing service provided by the staff—especially Sam!

From the moment we arrived, Sam was there to greet us with a warm smile and a genuine willingness to help. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. One of the first things he did was assist us with purchasing tramway passes, making it easy for us to explore the city. He took the time to recommend the best restaurants, guiding us on what to order to truly enjoy the local cuisine. You could tell he truly cared about our experience.

Sam also played the role of a guide, providing us with invaluable tips on how to visit all the must-see sites in Istanbul. His enthusiasm for the city and its culture was contagious! What truly stood out was his dedication; he even woke up at 2:30 in the morning to help us with check-out, ensuring our luggage was taken care of and that we got to our taxi on time. This level of service is rare and deeply appreciated.

Every time we returned to the hotel, Sam would have Turkish coffee waiting for us, along with refreshing water, making us feel right at home. His attention to detail and kindness made our 13 days in Istanbul so much more enjoyable and stress-free.

I also want to commend the rest of the staff at Union Hotel Port. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and the hotel itself was impeccably clean and well-maintained. It was evident that there is a strong commitment to providing a wonderful experience for guests.
