Platinum Otel & Restaurant Bodrum — Hotel in Bodrum

AVOID the scam. Lots of restaurants in this lovely setting. Choose any of them except this one. "English John" stands out front to give the place an air of respectability and the owner hovers and does a good job of pretending to be credible. Ultimately we had an acceptable shared Ottoman Kebab and wine and they tried to charge us 3500tL for the kebab - around £70. We made the stupid mistake of not asking the price despite a conversation with an incompetent waiter about the difference between 2 dishes. LOTS of menu items don't have prices, just "Ask" which is their "in" to bill you whatever they like. Lots of reviews on Google and Trp adviser to suggest this is standard practice for them and all the other restaurants know they do this too. If it isn't the "Ask" method its a service charge or its "premium fish" not farmed thats pushed the price up.... total scam.

In addition to this, we had a drink in a nearby restaurant and were approached by the platinum waiter who was incredibly threatening and aggressive was essentially ejected from the restaurant we were in by their staff. We were very grateful for their intervention. Incredible...

Not as expected. Focus seems to be on the restaurant, not the hotel. No one spoke English or any other language than Turkish (except the guy from the street that was responsible to get people into the restaurant). Welcoming to the hotel after extensive travel consisted in “passport please” and the keys handed over. Not one word explaining anything or whatsoever. Room was not like in the pictures, dirty carpet and all in all really worn. Especially the stairs (no elevator!) leading to the rooms were adventurous. And don’t expect to sleep before 2 or 3 AM. The street is loud and the windows don’t have any soundproofing at all. You literally feel like you sleep in the middle of the street. Location is superb though. Avoid at all cost!!! Both the food and service at this restaurant were terrible. We came here with my family and were extremely disappointed. The view was very nice but the food didn’t live up to it. It arrived cold, missing dishes, and tasting very bad. The service was just as bad. We had to ask multiple times for them to bring us what we ordered and they got the drinks and food wrong. When it came time to pay the bill, they wouldn’t accept card payment over 500 liras, and tried to push us to pay cash or make multiple payments. The manager Byron was not of any help and argued with us for over 45min. Anyway, save yourself the headache and stomach ache and go...
