Small hotel in the back streets of Istanbul city center.
We got (probably the only) room with a balcony. Which was great. This was definitely the highlight of the hotel, so without this I am not sure the experience would have been as good. The room itself was small but serviceable with a standard bathroom, desk cupboard etc. The balcony door was broken so felt a little insecure but the room was on the 5th floor. A few other bits and pieces were a little shabby but we didn’t come to Istanbul to stay in the hotel so for us these small imperfections were not a problem. Room and hotel was clean.
The room being on the 5th floor was fine for us but there is no elevator.
Breakfast was in the basement/renovated garage? The one time we went down for it, it was a little crowded and difficult to get a seat as the place is very small and only a small window to eat (8-9am). The food was simple but nice. A very basic hotel buffet cooked by one lady in a tiny kitchen in the corner.
The reception staff were available 24/7 and very friendly and helpful.
Location wise, the hotel is in a bit of a dingy part of town, with little street lights at night, and many “factories” open during the day. It felt a little unsafe but we had absolutely no problems and actually quite liked the area after a few days. It is at the bottom of a hill from the tram line so walking up the hill every morning might be tough for older travelers.
It’s about a 5 minute walk to the bayzid square/mosque/tram stop that can get you anywhere in the city in 15 mins.
Although this hotel is certainly not a 4* hotel, the price was good and for us it was exactly what we wanted. The view from the balcony...
Read moreA five star hotel, simply stunning! All of the previous negative reviews, if you see, we’re made more than a year ago, so listen to this more recent review: The managers at the front desk were extremely helpful and polite, and took time and consideration into helping us and recommending nearby places. When we first arrived, it was 12am, but the manager happily welcomed us into the hotel and allowed us to order food from a spectacular restaurant. He then called the restaurant and ordered the food for us! Not to mention the fact that the food was great! The location of this hotel was also in an amazing area, with a nearby tram, seaside, and many famous landmarks! Try the Bosphorus tour - it’s really worth it - and the staff here in Maduro Hotel are willing to help with anything any time! Also, there is a range of foods to choose from in the breakfast buffet, so why not try it? I love this hotel so much, and if I (hopefully) ever come back to Istanbul, I will definitely come back here! It’s cheap and super worth it! When we had to leave (at 01:30 am) I was sad to leave such an amazing place! But it’s okay! I hope to come back again soon!
Note: I am writing this review on the 4th of June, and I left Turkey yesterday, on the...
