Before our trip Harry called to let us know that an early check in would be available as someone checked out early, we made our way across to bath from London in 2 hours straight down the M4
Once we arrived Harry was there to welcome us and give us a parking pass. We parked right down the road and left our car there for the duration of 3 days. On Sunday when we checked out we gave the pass back and were able to leave the car there and benefit from free parking as it was Sunday
Harry and Douglas were incredible hosts, immediately upon arrival be prepared for the most energetic and enthusiastic reception. Harry asked us about our stay, dietary requirements, got a gist of the type of people we were through food, interests and what we do and recommended lotsssssss of things to do in the area. Everything is only 10/15 minutes away so this place is perfectly situated (when in bath, WEAR TRAINERS / walking shoes) for the uphill walks which we loved.
After Harry (who is like the Bath Yellow pages) showed us a map of the area and helped book us a late lunch at this magnificent local seafood restaurant The Scallop Shell, he showed us to our room, Room 1, with an en suite shower
This room had a TV with all the freeview channels + excellent coverage, Toiletries from The White Company, Luxurious towels, Wifi, Hairdryer, double bed, beautifully laid out, it was spotless and had an overall positive vibe
The guest house has lovely, quirky artwork and pieces all over, and the main dining room is where everyone in the house meets for breakfast, the dining room has a large table seating 12(?) and in the morning there's are lots of options for fruit and granola before and if you've ordered a hot breakfast (we both had the vegetarian full english)
Harry an Douglas are doing an excellent job, and we were very happy spending some downtime in Bath at their guest house, it is warm, romantic, there's lots to do, to eat and the air and water is oh so fresh!
One night I felt very cold as there were very strong winds from a storm that had been passing by that day (Storm Hannah?) They gave us an additional heater, after which I felt fine.
Thank you for being so accommodating, you both made us feel so at home, and we loved that you have such rich world experience, of cultures and understanding of different people, which is how you are both able to make everyone feel so comfortable
We also loved that you were promoting all other local businesses as these are what make Bath a great...
Read moreIf you to get a good night's sleep, I would strongly suggest booking alternative accommodation. Whilst some guests will love the shabby chic decor, it does nothing for the soundproofing of the room.||When cars drove by the window it sounded like the panes of glass were non-existent. When coupled with the creaky and wooden floorboards in the room above, it made for two rather uncomfortable nights.||The overall cleanliness of Hill House was okay and it did have a bit of charm about it; however, the level of personal service and interaction leaves a lot to be desired. From a self-check in process, to an unexplained absence of breakfast provision, it felt like I was staying in an AirB&B only it was multiple occupation of the same premises, with the only means of communication through WhatsApp, calls or texts.||Despite it being at the top of a long hill, the location is pretty good with plenty of dining options and Bath's key attractions, within walking distance.||Whilst I travel to the area frequently with work, I do not envisage a time that I would actively seek to stay in Hill House again. If a situation arises where the majority of alternatives are booked up, I will more than stay at...
Read moreHarry and Douglas warmly welcome you into your gorgeous home away from home. The rooms are beautifully appointed and include tea, coffee, biscuits and luxury. Our sweet suite had a stunning view of Solsbury Hill's sunrise! The hospitality is excellent - both generous and respectful as your hosts have a wealth of British information at their clever fingertips and seem to know what might best suit you. Delicious, lingering breakfast at the large family dining room encouraged scintillating morning conversation - enjoying my own carafe of coffee -then a pot of tea - while chatting with new people was a highlight! Thank you, Harry and Douglas! We hope to see you again in the future!. Best regards,...
